7/02/2006 OCWN 40m CW Net - NCS/UEB checked in IMW, VDP, NT, RND, and IXN.  UEB plans to fabricate a ground strap frm the Hamstick magmount to a metal door latch.  And IMW is preparing fer a trip bk to ‘GD’ land, and, UEB asked Ian if he had a device fer heavy duty soldering…Ian said yes, but it won’t work on aluminum!  VDP said that 80m was bad on Field Day, then Larry QNXd fer tennis on TV.  And VDP told UEB that the FD site was FB wid plenty of room.  NT, using the keyboard, had nice WX at the beach, but Ray said sigs were vy weak.  RND worked W6ZE on 80m on FD, and John, preparing fer another hot day, wished all a happy Fourth!  IXN sent June Netnotes to Ken, HHC, but they are not yet up on the website.

 

7/05/2006 10m Phone Net - W6ZE/AF6C checked in JD, N1AB, IXN, HHC, and KC6PTY (Jerry).  PTY’s QTH is located in Placerville off Hwy 50.  JD missed FD fer health reasons, but attended the July Club Bfast.  AB, wid FB sigs tonite, is already preparing fer the 2007 FD!  And IXN said that he & Lee will be up in the San Jacinto Mts all next week.  AF6C & HHC will handle the 10m & 2m Nets frm the Orange County Fair next week!  HHC announced that LDC is bk in town, and Ken is preparing to show, and possibly sell, NGO towers to a ham in Big Bear City!…And Ken said that he received a CD ROM frm PEQ wid FD pix.  AF6C is awaiting GOTA FD info to be sent to him, and HHC told Bob that Jack, Sheryl, Doris, and IRD all were at the GOTA tent.  And HHC is busy working on FD pix fer the Club website.  PTY used to live in Fountain Valley and he remembers the OCARC.

 

7/05/2006 2m Phone Net - W6ZE/IXN checked in AUL, TAI, HHC, JD, AF6C, and GW.  AUL enjoyed FD weekend, but had to work on sum upgrading issues and moving furniture, and Nicolas hoped that all had a nice 4th!  TAI ‘kicked bk’ at home on the 4th wid a friend and his mom preparing for the Czech holidays today & tomorrow.  QST!…ALL OPs WHO HAVE FD PHOTOGRAPHS!…GET THEM TO HHC TO BE POSTED ON THE CLUB WEBPAGE!!  JD ‘kicked bk’ on the 4th at home and watched neighborhood fireworks…And Lowell plans to attend the OC Fair.  AF6C , at home on the 4th, watched the Boston Pops program & fireworks, and Bob hopes to review old Photoshop lessons so that he can reproduce and old Club clockface fer Art, formerly AD6B.  GW checked in wid a bad case of allergies!…Cori & HHC had a test session on 10m after Cori made sum ground repairs and moved her ant…HHC said that interference was removed frm the audio and gave GW a gud sig rpt!  AF6C then aired ARRL Audio News where we heard abt amateur radio emergency communications used in the flooding of three rivers in PA, Deleware, and New Jersey…Also, the Republic of Montenegro hass become the 192nd DXCC country, and, that ISS astronauts see flashes, caused by cosmic rays, when they close their eyes!…Tnx, Bob!

 

7/09/2006 OCWN 40m CW Net - NCS/UEB checked in IMW, VDP, OIO, and NT.  UEB, wid a FB day in Irvine, said it was a gud day fer cutting grass and digging stumps out of the ground - at least before it gets too hot!…HI!  Ian, commenting on the select few this am, feels that he is ‘CW-challenged’ today…HI!…And IMW will soon be off fer a month to GD-land.  And VDP, wid an S9 noise level, is off to Kingman, AZ, tomorrow to look at houses.  OIO tried to check in frm Barton Flats last week, but all sigs were barely readable, but Ann had an enjoyable getaway cutting & raking a six-weeks’ growth of weeds.  NT, wid a warm day at the beach, hopes that IMW can do a ’lil DXing bk in GD-land…HI!

 

7/12/2006 10m & 2m Phone Nets - High QRN and questionable antennas the the Orange County Fair Ham Booth limited check-ins to both Nets!  Quite a bit of interest was created at the Ham Booth, which took 1st prize!  ATV was popular.  AF6C tried to conducts the 2m Net frm the Fairgrounds, but QRN & weak sigs forced Bob to relinquish NC duties to JD.  Checked into Net was AUL, KI6EOV(Jack), DDE, AB, and acting NCs, JD and AF6C. DDE’s trip to Oregon and the hot WX were among topics of discussion.  CCD was the only 2m check-in.

 

7/16/2006 OCWN 40m CW Net - NCS/UEB checked in HKT, VDP, IB, OIO, NT, and NXY.  UEB had a vy active weekend…Last nite the XYL, daughter & Rick all went to the XYL’s company party at Angel Stadium, taking in the Tampa Bay gme while there…Then Sunday, UEB & the harmonic did sum kayaking in Newport Bay.   HKT had fun working CW fer 5 hrs on FD.   VDP is bk frm hot, dry Kingman, AZ, where Larry & XYL were looking at houses…Next they will check out Pahrump, NV!…And VDP saw an article in the Daily Pilot that Newport is finally starting work on Goat Hill…Larry will send the article to NT.  IB, wid 100 deg. WX in the foothills, has his youngest daughter in Cambridge, UK, fer a 3-week program at the University.  OIO’s old laptop ‘thru a rod’ thru the C  drive, so, wid prices lower now,  Ann bought a new one…Gud thing that Ann backed up her logs last month!  NT told UEB to bring lots of sunscreen when he comes down to the beach, and Ray will appreciated getting the Daily Pilot article on Goat Hill frm VDP.  NXY, planning to avoid the heat and play radio, really enjoys the OCWN Net!

 

7/19/2006 10m Phone Net - W6ZE/AF6C checked in LDC, IXN, JD, HHC, and KD6IDT(Alan).  LDC got bk frm Montana last week…Larry caught a lot of fish, suffered temps that never got above 80 deg…HI!…And LDC even went thru a snow storm, at 7,000 ft, up in the mountains!…Now LDC & XYL are off to Julian come Fri. to experience sum ‘great musicals’!  AF6C reminded all OPs not to miss OCARC meeting come Friday, wid a speaker frm the Enforcement Bureau of the FCC!  JD copied IDT wid QSB, and HHC asked Alan about radio clubs near Canby in Modoc County.  IDT used to live in Riverside before moving to Canby in northern CA…Alan was using a Hustler vertical wid radials (4BTV), and a 40m Bazooka ant.   IXN thanked AF6C & JD fer the FB e-mails concerning last week’s 10m & 2m Nets.  HHC told OPs that the Ham Booth at the Orange County Fair got the ‘Best of Show’ ribbon, and, we send along kudos to Cheryl, KTT ,fer encouraging kids to send their names in CW!

 

7/19/2006 2m Phone Net - W6ZE/IXN checked in JD, AUL, EOV, HHC, AF6C, DDE, KGM, and GW.  JD, watching the electric bill climb wid air conditioner use, is trying his best to stay cool, and Lowell is enjoying the Ham bfast get-togethers on Fri. mornings at Watsons in Orange.  AF6C announced the OCARC speaker, Katherine Deaton , frm the FCC Enforcement Bureau, fer Friday’s Club meeting, and, Bob aired the ARRL Audio News at Net’s end.  AUL has been keeping cool while working on programming in a 65 deg. computer room…Nicolas is thinking abt wearing a sweater to keep warm!!  EOV’s ant. and HT are doing a FB job, and HHC, wid two windows open, is using Mother Nature to cool his 2nd floor hamshack…And Ken just finished posting the FD pictures up on the Club website!  AF6C is still waiting to complete FD scores as Bob waits for completed GOTA station contacts!…And AF6C relayed GW/m comments to NCS as IXN received motorboating sigs frm Cori!  DDE, bk frm a month in Oregon, reported 102 deg. temps. in Portland!…It’s hot everywhere, OPs!!…And DDE enjoyed working wid JD at the Ham Booth at the Orange County Fair.  NCS, unable to hear KGM at Net’s check-in, asked HHC to relay Al’s report.  Al, KGM, not the oldest or the newest member of the Club, plans to attend Fri. Club meeting…(Tnx, Ken!)   HHC told GW that PEQ, Dan, worked Portugal on 6m on FD. And GW told OPs that she worked SP2T, a Pole, in Brazil last weekend on 20m!   AF6C then aired July 14 ARRL Audio News…The ISS operates on UTC…Phantom calls alter logs in a recent DX contest…Hail, 1 to 3 inches in diameter, fell in New England storms, and, the July 12th 6m E-skip opening was one of the best openings of all time!…Tnx, Bob!

 

7/23/2006 OCWN 40m CW Net - THUNDER & LIGHTNING!!…UEB/NC, and IXN were both off the air due to a series of thunderstorms passing thru the area!  With a power outage at 8:30, UEB diswconnected the antenna and hoped fer the best!   Rick sent tnx to VDP for running the Net in his absence. 

 

7/26/2006 10m Phone Net - W6ZE/AF6C checked in W7KTS, GW, and IXN.  NCS moved up a couple of KCs to eliminate QRM.  IXN attempted to follow but cudn’t find the dial lock button on the new rig…The room was dark, the front of the rig is black, the writing on the keys is  small, and IXN will now keep a flashlight near the rig frm now on…Now you know the rest of the story!  GW had gud sigs…Cori was using the mobile rig parked behind the store…And GW said the noise on the ant. inside the store drives her crazy!  KTS worked at the Orange County Fair Ham Booth at least three times wid different radio groups.  AF6C was called to the landline on former company business.

 

7/26/2006 2m Phone Net - W6ZE/IXN checked in JD, GW, AUL, W7KTS, and TAI.  IXN got thru the colonoscopy wid only one polyp found, and JD is not due for 3 yrs for another colonoscopy…And Lowell is coping nicely wid the heat wid help frm the AC!   GW & UC are beginning to make a dent in the backlog of musical instruments left by schools for repair, and Jim and Cori are trying to find the sources of the high noise level at the store.  TAI/m was on his way to pick up his friend at work, then both were off to enjoy a gud meal!  AUL is bearing the heat quite well!…Nicholas is working in a FREEZING computer room!…He has to wear a sweater to keep warm!  KTS, over frm the 10m Net, enjoyed last Sunday’s rain, and David passed kudos along to Kristin fer the FB job she did with kids at the Orange County Fair Ham Booth!

 

7/30/2006 OCWN 40m CW Net - NCS/UEB checked in VDP, IXN, IB, and NT.  UEB & IXN had too much lightning to check into last Sunday’s Net, but Rick thanked VDP fer taking over NC duties.  UEB and family just got bk yesterday frm Sequoia/Kings Canyon Nat. Parks…A sked wid IB and NU6T was unsuccessful!  VDP, wid heavy drizzle at 8:00 AM, did not do well at the TRW Swapmeet yesterday, and, IXN, wid 2 Sundays in the San Jacinto Mts, and one Sunday of Thunderstorms, missed the last 3 Nets!  IB & NU6T cudn’t hear UEB on Friday wid bad band condx, and, OPs were experiencing high QSB on 40m today!  NT, wid cool, overcast WX by the Bay, was glad that OPs escaped lightning damage last Sunday.
