03/5/2008 10m Phone Net - W6ZE/AF6C checked in CF, GEN, and IXN.  AF6C has been vy busy wid yard and house repairs.  CF, working on taxes, still doesn’t have his kitchen up & running…Installers leave something to be desired and Nicolas may have to end up doing some of the work himself!  GEN has been busy working around the house, yard & garden, and all OPs briefly discussed IXN’s new FT-8800R.

 

03/5/2008 2m Phone Net - W6ZE/IXN checked in AF6C, CF,  EZF, KFW, FKX, and CCE.  IXN will try to convene the 2m Net next Wed. if his same day cataract removal will permit.  CF hopes to be using the new electric oven in the kitchen by next week, and KFW just finished replacing the numbers in a frequency display in an older rig.  EZF was using his HT tonite  and had gud sigs at NC’s QTH.  FKX is about ready fer the Grand Canyon field trip wid his students come April 11, wid a 1920s Vintage preview trip  to Mt. Lowe coming up.  IXN & AF6C discussed the price of electrolytic capacitors, and IXN said that if you want to see a 3-dimensional map of the Martian surface, try this website: hrscview.fu-berlin.de .   AF6C then aired ARRL Audio News for Feb. 29.   The FCC denied two petitions to reinstate Morse code testing…The Dept. of Defense said that most PAVE-PAWS radar interference issues wid the ham community have been solved.  The Duce Island DXpedition broke many contact records!…Pick up your ARRL Handson Experiments book and the ARRL Digital Handbook at the ARRL Store…Tnx, Bob!  ARRL Audio News concluded at 21:22 hrs local time.  CCE checked in at Net’s end after a busy evening using his 3 element tape-measure ant…Kenan had been out cycling wid a friend.

 

03/12/2008 10m Phone Net - W6ZE/AF6C checked in PEQ, CF, N1AB, HHC, and IXN.  AF6C said that PFA, DLA, and others from COAR attended KQ6JD’s funeral.  OP’s were shocked to hear about Lowell’s death.  KQ6JD was in gud spirits and seemed to be recuperating well before his death on Mar. 3.  PEQ said that Kristin, training fer a job,  was on her way home frm Sacramento, and, you must look at Dan & Kristin’s call signs imbedded in the QTH floor tiles!  CF, wid a bit of QRN on his sigs also commented on the news of JD’s demise…And AB commented, “Lowell was doing so well, what happened?”  IXN, wid one eye patched, had cataract surgery early this morning, and HHC, bk frm a great time at Mammoth, commented on AF6C’s large number of pages in March ‘RF’as he announced CF as editor for April ‘RF’.  IXN will be publishing further Club history articles in the coming months, and, PEQ announced that many area OPs are working the Clipperton DXpedition which includes OCARC’s Arnie, N6HC!

 

03/12/2008 2m Phone Net - W6ZE/IXN checked in CF, AF6C, FKX, HHC, K6DXN, KI6OKX, KD6CQS & KG6UBY, KI6HQY, KFW, KØBWH (via SKYPE), EVX, and WP.  The saga of ‘Nicolas’ Kitchen’ continues…another wrong part sent fer the new microwave…Will our VP & XYL hve their kitchen remodeling done in 2008?!…Stay tuned!  Spring Break will find FKX & family camping in Anza Borrego State Park.  Simone,K6DXN; Mark, KI6OKX, Tom, KD6CQS; and XYL, Tammi, KG6UBY; and Bryan, KI6HQY, all hang out on 146.550 simplex frm time to time, and tonite they checked into the Net just in time to hear Bob, BWH/Æ, check in SKYPE, via HHC, frm Sheldon, ND!  I believe it was HQY that had relations in ND.  IXN & BWH briefly discussed winter wheat(now going fer $24/bu.), the big crops being corn & soy beans.  KFW & OPs were sorry to hear abt Lowell, KQ6JD’s passing.  And EVX said that if you wanted to help out at the KGNC event, call Gene at 714-680-4258.   El Presidente WP checked in telling OPs that he worked the Clipperton Is. DXpedition frm PEQ’s QTH before they started the Event.   AF6C then aired the ARRL Audio News for Mar. 7…Apr. QST is on the way to mail boxes…Clipperton Is. is #21 on the DX most wanted entities list…Instructor manules for Amateur Radio Licensing are available at the ARRL Book Store…ARRL Audio News concluded at 21:48 hrs. local time. AJ4EO, JD’s son, checked in and talked wid HHC…They plan to meet wid the Watson Radio Club Fri. morning for Bfast.

 

03/19/2008 10m Phone Net - W6ZE/AF6C checked in CF, IXN, HHC. and GEN.   AF6C, battling weeds at the QTH, reminded OPs abt Club meeting Fri. eve.  HC will return early frm Clipperton Is. due to inclement WX.  CF, busy at work, still hasn’t finished wid the kitchen contractors at the QTH.  IXN pushed sum wrong buttons on the 897D and ended up .01 MHz off frequency....now to unpush the buttons he accidentally pushed!  HHC thinks a guy wire may have loosened at the base of the KFI Radio Tower which caused it to collapse.   Ken says Dino-K6RIX will give us the full story at a later date.  IXN will e-mail part 3 of the Club history to AF6C & HHC.   GEN, was bk frm northeastern New Mexico, will be retiring near Clovis in the not-to-distant future…Chet got some large telephone poles upon which he will install a long wire antenna, etc.

 

03/19/2008 2m Phone Net - W6ZE/IXN checked in GEN, HHC, UBY, KFW, AF6C, KG6FBM(Bernard), CF, CCE, VDP, KI6OJJ(James), KØBWH (via SKYPE), and N8WP.  GEN & IXN briefly discussed the flat land in northern New Mexico.  HHC copied Tammi in Covina and Ken told OPs that the BWH computer was on in Sheldon, ND, but no Bob Buss at the keyboard!  IXN told OPs that cataract surgery left a larger pupil in the left eye.  FBM checked in frm Reseda in the San Fernando Valley using a ST-8800 at 50W.   AF6C & IXN discussed the upcoming change to digital TV in the near future, and AF6C will air ARRL Audio News later in the Net.   KFW took on repairing a ‘Lil Rascal Go-cart, replacing a burned-up power transistor among other things lik frayed wires, etc.   VDP got bk frm Golden Valley, AZ, yesterday, where he attended a gun show in Kingman.  CCE ‘flew in & flew out’, and James, OJJ, checked in frm Tustin on a handheld using a Diamond ant. BWH/Æ checked in frm Sheldon, ND, via HHC SKYPE…Bob said they were having dandy WX wid a ’lil frost and expecting a light dusting of snow tonite, and Bob had visitors this past week, his mom & sister.   El Presidente, N8WP, checked in to remind OPs to bring their best logos fer the 75th Anniversary Logo Contest of the OCARC at Fri. nite’s Club meeting.  AF6C then aired the Mar. 14 edition of the ARRL Audio News.  June 27 - 29 marks the days of “The Dayton of Europe” Convention…Satellite AO-16 is still operational…Registrations for the USA ARDF Contest for the 2nd week in May in No. Texas, are now being accepted…ARRL Audio News ended at 21:47 hrs. local time…Tnx, Bob!

 

03/26/2008 10m Phone Net - W6ZE/AF6C checked in N1AB, GEN, HHC, and CF.   IXN was in the San Jacinto Mts. wid Lee at the niece’ QTH helping install a new horse arena.  AF6C plans to move a workbench.  HHC will be NC fer the 2m Net.  And CF is putting finishing touches on the kitchen remodeling.

 

3/26/08 2m Phone Net - W6ZE/HHC checked in CF, GEN, AF6C, WP, and KØBWH via SKYPE.  AF6C did not air ARRL Audio News which was cancelled for the Easter holidays.
