02/4/2009 10M Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in CF, IXN, and HHC.  IXN has a transmitting intermittent.  AF6C has offered Bob assistance wid the problem!  OPs were experiencing between S5 & S7 noise levels.  AF6C & HHC had several questions about the late KD6BWH/KØBWH, Bob Buss.  IXN will continue his search in old Club rosters.  HHC found an errant street light as a source of QRN near his QTH, which he reported to the City ofOrange…not fixed yet!  And Ken is now settled in his new quarters after the big move at work.  CF attended the COAR meeting wid AF6C & HHC last evening…the Baker-to-Vegas race is early this year! …IXN hopes the runners will not be showered with snowflakes in the mountain passes!

 

02/4/2009 2M Phone Net – W6ZE/IXN checked in CF, HHC, and AF6C.  Research continues on the Bob Buss (now a SK), KØBWH, contributions to the OCARC.  IXN also had a noisy sodium vapor street light outside the QTH which the City of Santa Ana promptly replaced.  Tonite, IXN had no QRN on 2m, but, a S5 QRN on 10m!  AF6C will air ARRL Audio News next week, and Bob’s eye is doing much, much better!  IXN will soon put up a new ant. for 40-10m.

 

02/11/2009 10M Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in DE, HHC, CCD, and IXN.  DE is busy preparing items needed for emergency kits that are highly mobile, during emergencies, for the CAP.  HHC said that Ida Yamachika’s relative sent her an article abt Kei, former(W6NGO), found on the Internet…And Ken got further info. abt the NARSMEN from VDP, who said the NARSMEN disbanded in 1974.  IXN said that brother, Lee, has another leg problem, and AF6C said that he has sold part of the Club’s Drake gear to an OP in Clairmont…And Bob has updated the membership list on the Website.  CCD hasn’t been skiing for abt 6 years, and Tom has been busy wid outside chores around the house between rains…Then Tom got the din-din call.

 

02/11/2009 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/IXN checked in DE, KR6J (Kenan ex-N6CCE), AF6C, VDP, HHC, and EVX.  DE checked into the CAP Net before he joined us on 2m…Tom is preparing for the upcoming CAP Annual Survivor Event.  KR6J, soon to be married in Thailand in June, over FD weekend, is now a member of an amateur bicycling club! Kenan will have a U.S. wedding later.  VDP, wid a S5 noise level in AZ, just barely heard the 40M OCWN last Sunday, and Larry’s rig was shifting in frequency.  HHC’s ski trip to the High Sierras is two weeks away…And Ken said that 32 OPs was present at the last Baker-to-Vegas meeting.  AF6C proposed an Emergency Preparedness Night, where OPs would use batteries, etc., as a source of power for the Nets.  EVX ‘flew in and flew out’…Then Robert kicked bk to await ARRL Audio News for Feb. 6, which AF6C aired at 21:05 hrs. local time…ARRL will review Amateur Radio Mobile Operations in light of new cellular telephone and text messaging rules & regulations…Watch for further ARRL action in these matters!...ARRL Audio News concluded at 21:29 hours…TNX Bob!

 

02/18/2009 10M Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in DE, HHC, LDC, CF, IXN, and WB9YCJ.  Congrats to James, DE, on authoring a new book titled ‘Where Does the Prophet Go’.  And AF6C wants to know more about the book!  Wid a bif snow pack in the High Sierra, HHC can’t wait to hit the slopes this weekend!...Then it’s home Thursday to a COAR meeting on Baker-to-Vegas…Ken also reported a new sunspot!  LDC plans to attend Fri. nite Club meeting.  CF alerted OPs to the So. CA. Antique Radio Society swapmeet in the Ford Electronics Parking Lot, 8431 Commonwealth Ave., Buena Park, on Feb. 21, 7 to 10am.  IXN said that brother Lee’s other knee is now bothering him, and, Bob’s sigs dropped off once agn!  YCJ checked in wid loud sigs and nice audio.

 

02/18/2009 2M Phone Net – W6ZE/IXN checked in DE, AF6C, CF, HHC, and WB9YCJ.  IXN asked DE about his new book, and James repeated the title for Bob.  AF6C had an ARRL Audio News ready to air later, and Bob reminded all OPs abt Club meeting Friday nite…AF6C also worked sum DX frm a little island off Puerto Rico on 20m phone & CW….And Bob said that ARRL members can now download QST articles from 1915 thru 2005!  CF once agn gave info. to OPs abt the SCARS Swapmeet.(see above).  HHC said at least one contestant submitted an entry for a Club QSL card, and YCJ & IXN discussed flickering street lights as a source of QRN.  AF6C then aired the ARRL Audio News for Feb. 13, 2009, at 21:04 hrs…The Tech Class Question Pool is now under review, and questions & answers for the new Pool are being accepted!(see Feb. ed. Of ARRL Letter)…Check ‘Logbook of the World’ on at the ARRL website for QSL card info. …Palmdale ordinance against ham antenna construction is VOID! …ARRL Audio News concluded at 21:23 hrs local time…TNX, Bob!

 

02/25/2009 10M Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in DE, GMU, CF, IXN, and WB9YCJ.  Through a member of CAP, DE picked up two radios, one for 220MHz, and one for 440MHz!  GMU had S3 sigs at IXN’s QTH, dwn in the QRN…And Paul’s is recovering from his upper respiratory bug!  CF, weak sigs at IXN’s rig, called for more entries for a new Club QSL card.  OPs enjoyed a gud discussion over an unwanted, extra loaf of bread placed in YCJ’s grocery sack…Keep it, return to store, or eat it were most options considered…What would you do?!  IXN still has transmission problems & continues to tune a new ant.  YCJ said that there won’t be a SW Division Convention this year…Next year, it will be held in San Diego.  AF6C downloaded the ARRL Audio News for the 2m Net.

 

02/25/2009 2M Phone Net – W6ZE/IXN checked in DE, GMU, CF, EVX, YCJ, AF6C, and WTQ.  DE added to his repertoire of radios wid a 220 MHz rig and a 440 MHz rig!  GMU said he has a new ant. on standby to erect in the future, and IXN is in the process of tuning a new 10-40m ant.  GMU called for articles for Mar. ‘RF’, and CF is preparing for the Baker-to-Vegas Test Run come Sat.
