8/04/2010 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in WB9YCJ, KE6YHX, W6UX, WB6IXN, KI6WZU, KI6DHT, and N6HC.  KI6WZU(Jay) checked in using a YAESU 897, and YHX bought a geophone to be used in a seismometer project…Now Cory hopes that Santa will bring him a solar panel for Christmas!   YCJ told OPs that he is impressed wid FD photos on the Club website, and Ken reminded OPs not to forget to visit the OCARO ham booth at the OC Fair.  AF6C reminded OPs to check out the Club website for program info. at Club meetings.  UX has the mobile rig installed & ready fer the upcoming trip.   DHT is making up for lost DX since Club OPs helped Mike erect the new antenna, and Mike alerted OPs to great auroras in the Northeast.  OPs welcomed KI6WZU(Jay) to the Net wid gud sigs.  YHX will assume NC duties next week on the 2m Net.  IXN & Lee will be ‘holding down the fort’ while niece’s husband, Ron, has surgery to patch the hole in his face & nose from skin cancer removal!..(PROTECT YOUR SKIN, FACE, AND EYES FROM THE SUN’S DEADLY UV RAYS!)  HC thanked UX & FKX for helping to erect DHT’s new antenna!...And Arnie will soon get a new lens in one eye.

 

8/04/2010 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/WB6IXN checked in KE6YHX, N8UZE, W6UX, W6GMU, K6VDP, AF6C, and KI6WZU.  When the new geophone arrives, YHX will check it out on the oscilloscope.  UZE & OM, N8AE, Carl, have their home (and well-healed hamshack back in MichiganDee is here on a work assignment and Carl, AE, hopes to visit out here over the  Labor Day weekend!  UX intends to work the low bands and 2m/440 wid his new mobile rig, and, a version of an antenna used by Chip Margelli shown at a recent Club meeting.  GMU will be found on Saturday working the OCARO Booth at the OC Fair.   VDP also alerted OPs abt increasing sunspots and auroras, and Larry will go back to Golden Valley, AZ, in a couple of weeks.  WZU described the 2m/440 ant and mounting, and AF6C said the Botanical Gardens in Encinitas are absolutely beautiful!...Bob then aired the ARRL Audio News for July 29 at 21:05 hrs local time…Civil entities CANNOT pass ordinances regulating RF interference…Radio interference from electronic devices is regulated by the FCC!...Sunspots are increasing rapidly…Don’t forget the ARRL UHF Contest Aug. 7-8 …ARRL Audio News concluded at 21:24 hrs. local time…(Tnx, Bob!)

 

8/11/2010 2m Phone Net – The Club tnx Corey, KE6YHX, for NC duties in IXN’s absence!  W6ZE/KE6YHX checked in W6GMU, W6UX, W6KJC, K6VDP, AF6CF, N6UX, and AF6C.   GMU announced a two day session for OCARC members at the OCCARO Booth at the Orange County Fair.  UX, Jeff, talked about the rig and a 40 meter Spider Pole.  KJC checked in from the Orange County Fair, telling OPs that the Fair ends on the 15th.  VDP said that an open wire dipole with a feeder can be used as an antenna, and AF6CF plans to meet UX, Jeff, at Club meeting.  UX, Doug, attended a concert in Tustin, and AF6C aired the ARRL Audio News at 2100 hrs, ending at 21:20 hrs local time…(Tnx, Bob).

 

8/18/2010 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C reported W6UX and KE6YCJ as check-ins for the 8/11 10m Net, and for the 8/18/10 10m Net, W6ZE/AF6C checked in KE6YHX, W6UX, WB6IXN, and W6HC.  AF6C said that HHC will be back on 10m when he gets the vertical ant. back up, and YHX’ new transducers have a rattling problem!  UX is completing work on the portable antenna mast, and Jeff helped N6NFA & crew put up a 65 ft. tower.   AF6C is working on ‘RF’…Articles, anyone?!!  IXN will be doing sum research on transducers vs seismometers, and HC and Wayne Overbeck had fun working 7 grid squares on the UHF microwave bands!

 

8/18/2010 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/WB6IXN checked in N8UZE, W6GMU, W6UX, KE6YHX, W6HHC, N6RI(David), K6DNR(Bob), AF6C, and KR6J.  UZE will attend Club meeting Fri. eve, and Dee’s husband will be in the Southland for a visit over the Labor Day weekend.  GMU & CF attended Astronomy Club meeting last Fri. eve (IXN missed it), and IXN said that next meeting will fall on a radio club Friday!  UX invites OPs out out to the park Sat. to test radios and antennas!...Next on Jeff’s list…learn CW!  YHX is solving the mystery of ‘rattling’ transducers, and HHC, wid visitors all gone, will re-erect the low bands vertical ant. on the new roof.  David, N6RI, checked into Net from Fullerton, and Bob, K6DNR, checked into Net from Westminster…WELCOME, OP’s!  YHX told AF6C that he paid $15 for a transducer.  KR6J plans to return to the electronics repair business on the side.  AF6C then aired ARRL Audio News at 21:19 hrs. local time…The Midwest City, OK, ordinance against RF intereference has been struck down and has been rescinded!...The Council admits its ordinance DOES NOT APPLY TO HAMS!...The ARRL Audio News concluded at 21:38 hrs. local time…(Tnx, Bob!)

 

8/25/2010 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in KE6YHX, WB6IXN, N6HC, K6DNR, and W6UX.  YHX is using a new log book(4A), and Corey has sum questions on digital seismometers fer the 2m Net.  IXN, fan on in the 84 deg. heat in the shack, hears all OPs FB tonite, and HC will have the other eye lens replacement come Monday.  OPs welcome K6DNR(Bob), in Westminster, to the Net, and, AF6C, HC, and DNR all exchange 10-10 Numbers!  Wid all of the tests finished, UX now has the portable station ready for the Colorado trip, with a possible write-up on station operation and the trip after Jeff returns…And Jeff will try to check into Net from Las Vegas come next week!  AF6C and IXN briefly discuss bank statement files, and Bob tells IXN that he has a ARRL Audio News to air on the 2m Net.

 

8/25/2010 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/WB6IXN checked in W6GMU, W6UX, KE6YHX, N8UZE, AF6CF, K6VDP, KR6J. AF6C, and K6DNR.  GMU is thinking about a crank-up tower at the QTH, and Paul enjoyed Dennis Kidder’s talk on grounding at last Club meeting.  UX recommends OPs try out the WIN System.org on 440, using ham radio & computer to talk all over the world!  UX and KR6J exchange news on their cycling groups, and IXN

Turned YHX over to AF6C to have patch cord/computer questions answered regarding RS-232 connections from a seismometer to a Apple computer.  A tired UZE checked into Net and then ‘kicked back’ to listen to the Net before going to bed.  CF, AF6C, and IXN all had comments abt Cam, WV6V, suddenly becoming a Silent Key!  VDP said that he still has some items for the Club, and Larry will be selling items at TRW Swapmeet next weekend.  KR6J, awaiting parts frm Kenwood for a radio repair, discussed cycling events wid UX.  And AF6C said that Braille Institute cud use some more volunteer help repairing audio book machines…AF6C, DLA, and PFA can give you more info if interested!  And Bob, DNR, joined us from the 10m Net, and, he ‘kicked back’ to listen to the ARRL Audio News.   AF6C then aired Aug. 19, 2010, ARRL Audio News at 21:29 hrs. local time…Sunspot numbers declined this week!...The Boy Scout Jamboree, July 26-Aug. 4, exposed over 4000 Scouts to Amateur Radio…Boy Scout Jamborees have included Amateur Radio since the 1970s!  The ARRL Audio News concluded at 21:46 hrs. local time…(tnx, Bob!)
