07/06/2011 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in N6HC , KE6YHX, NR6E (Mikkel),and W6HHC.  Wid IXN up in the San Jacinto Mts., and other OPs beginning vacations, the Net was slightly sparse tonite!

 

07/06/2011 2M Phone Net – W6ZE/KE6YHX checked in W6HHC, W6GMU, KJ6LHA, and AF6C.  With Field Day over and summer vacations in full swing, check-ins were fewer tonite!   IXN & brother Lee were on a working vacation up in the San Jacinto Mts. at Garner Valley.  OPs made a couple of rounds and OPs tied the ribbons on QSOs wid AF6C last QSO at 8:52 pm.  We thank Corey, KE6YHX, for assuming NC duties in IXN’s absence!

 

7/13/2011 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in WB6IXN, KB6CJZ, W6HHC, KE6YHX, W6JTT, and K6DNR.  AF6C said that Bill Myatt WA6YKH, a Club member long ago, passed away.  IXN said that Bill was a pioneer in computer use, and, he wrote many  programs in the BASIC language.  IXN & brother Lee, got back from the San Jacinto Mts. and Bob tnxed Corey for NC duties on the 2m Net last week.  HHC got the Club newsletter on the Web last weekend wid Field Day pix included!  Ken reminded OPs that the Club still needs OPs to help out at the Ham Radio Booth at the Orange County Fair which starts this week (Friday).  In passing, AF6C & OPs briefly mentioned ‘carmageddan’ (closure of the 405 Freeway this weekend).  HHC said we have two dates to help out at the Fair which will be located in a Huge tent this year.  YHX gave all OPs their sig reports, and Corey is still waiting for parts to arrive from Digikey for the seismometer.  CJZ, kicked back listening to the Net, had fun working wid 6m and talking wid people over Field Day.

 

7/13/11 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/WB6IXN checked in W6GMU, W6JTT, K6DNR, AF6C, KJ6LHA, K6VDP, KE6YHX, and KR6J.  GMU worked a CW Contest and was talking to AF6CF before Net…Paul said to check the Website and Kristin about OC Fair info.  JTT cud only copy HHC tonite thru the QRN…IXN & AF6C suggested Sam check out the QTH wid a small AM radio for possible sources of QRN.  DNR also had QRN tonite and Bob will eyeball wid us Fri. eve. at Club meeting.  AF6C mentioned Bill Myatt becoming a ‘Silent Key’, and Bob uses an old Grundig AM radio to check for sources of QRN on the higher bands.   LHA is looking for another ant. rotor, and Steve and AF6C briefly discussed the old HT-41 rig wid 2 866 amplifier tubes.  VDP will be in AZ on Sunday where we will try to contact Larry on 7.086 MHz CW at 9:00 am local time, and Larry told OPs that he recently rode around on backroads near Laughlin, NV, wid Homer, K6HKT, one of our CW OPs on the Orange County Wireless Net on 7.086 MHz.  KR6J and Mike, WK6O, worked Field Day together making at least 1562 CW contacts 9000 ft. up!

 

7/20/11 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in W6HHC, KR6J, KB6CJZ, K6BNN(Gene), KE6YHX, WB6IXN, N8AE, W6JTT, and K6DNR.  N6OHS & OPs are still dropping off Field Day pix at HHC’s QTH giving Ken a great selection of pictures for the Club webpage on the Internet!...And Ken is ice-packing his knee after orthoscopic surgery today!  KR6J had slight QRN on his sigs as Kenan prepares to work on some house repairs, insurance, and upcoming meetings.  AF6C copied JTT on the 2nd go-around, reported on PFA’s recovery from recent surgery, and told OPs about power pole replacement in the neighborhood.  CJZ experiences some QRN as he greets OPs tonite, copying most of the check-ins tonite.  BNN(Gene) worked W6ZE on FD, and Gene has a ne GR5V Jr. ant from which he worked an 80m Net.  YHX received a Certificate of Completion for his attendance at CERT training, and Corey enjoyed food and the OCARC Booth at the Orange County Fair.   AE, DNR, & Club OPs enjoyed an excellent presentation on high altitude amateur radio & photography given by a young Jr. High School student & his father last Friday eve at Club meeting!

 

7/20/11 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/WB6IXN checked in W6GMU, KE6YHX, W6HHC, W6JTT, N8AE, KG6WTQ, KJ6LHA, K6VDP, KR6J, AF6CF, and AF6C…Gud check-ins on both Nets tonite!  El Presidente Paul alerted all OPs to the opening of the Orange County Fair & the Amateur Radio Booth, and YHX briefly discussed operations of the Ham Radio Booth at the Fair…And Corey found a Brisquet Sandwich at the Fair to be excellent!  N8AE told HHC that he received the check, and HHC said he received Field Day pix from N6OHF…Then Ken was off to place an ice pack on his healing knee after surgery today!  JTT finds copy on 10m rough on his groundplane ant up 30ft., and AE, back from a walk in Irvine Regional Park, said it’s mighty hot back in Michigan wid 100 degree temps!   WTQ checked into Net from the Orange County Fair Amateur Radio Booth and LHA, manufacturing for EBAY, must put up 2 more antennas, and, take a 10-13 day trip up to Washington & back!  VDP sold a Johnson Matchbox, said the Williams Hamfest in AZ was not as gud as last year, but enjoyed the $3.29/gal gas price in AZ!  AF6C discussed a minor power outage when power poles were replaced, and Bob talked wid AF6CF has been busy wid family buseness…AF6C wants to ask Nicholas abt solar cell power & PayPal.

 

7/27/11 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in KE6YHX, W6JTT, KE6CJZ, WB6IXN, and W6HHC.  YHX is preparing to become a VEC…Then Corey is off to ‘BIG 5’ to pick up some emergency supplies for his kit.  JTT, working on a 30m dipole, had QRN tonite…There was a slight buzz on Sam’s sigs at Net beginning, but it disappeared as the Net progressed.  CJZ thanked HHC fer the excellent Field Day pictures up on the website, and AF6C got an A-OK on his vision at the eye doc today, and, HHC & Bob will meet Sat. morning at AF6C’s QTH to re-install the 40m dipole.  HHC reminded OPs to check into the mini-DXpedition to Anacapa Island off the CA coast wid OPs W6UX & GEP, CW & Phone, on 6m, 15m, 20m & 40m, starting on Sat & ending Sun. afternoon…(See OCARC website)  HHC thanked all OPs who submitted Field Day pictures for the Club website.  IXN read a small article on exoplanets floating freely in space.

 

7/27/11 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/WB6IXN checked in W6JTT, WB9YCJ, W6HHC, AF6C, and KE6YHX.  There were no contacts from the Orange County Fair tonite, and JTT discoers that height matters when tuning the 30m dipole.  YCJ/m does not drop out on his entire transmission on his way to the OC Fair to say HI to Gordy and to look at the new EICOM 9100 at the Fair Booth.  HHC said the Fair Booth call was K6F…HHC told OPs to check out FD pix on the Club webpage, and Ken selected a pix of two young Boy Scouts, wide-eyed in the GOTA station, as one of the best pix! (click on Photo Gallery on the webpage)…Ken then mentioned the XU/GEP mini-DXpedition to Anacapa Island this weekend, and YHX, back from BIG 5, gave all OPs their sig reports.  AF6C was listening to Net on the HT while watering the ‘back 40’…And Bob is planning another article for the Club Newsletter.  IXN tested the HT successfully wid AF6C.
