8/01/2012 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in WB6IXN, KE6YHX, N6ZQF(Bob), N8AE, N6HC, and N6NBV(Steve).  AF6C & IXB briefly discussed Robert Iacoppi’s revised ‘Earthquake Country’ booklet.     IXN & Lee will be off to a new ear doctor tomorrow.  YHX completed an ICF training course receiving a ‘ICF 100 Certificate’.  Bob, N6ZQF, in Fountain Valley was a 1st time check-in to the Net, and we thank AE, who likes ragchewing, for his active participation in Club activities since joining UZE in CA.  AF6C bought a new terabyte hard drive and is loading Field Day data on it, said that Al-W5KGM has a Drake line for sale, and replaced a burned out fluorescent tube.  HC joined the Net late taking advantage of daylight to do some landscaping, and Arnie is recuperating from a back sprain he got while arranging equipment on pallets in his garage for an upcoming DXpedition in September!    Steve, N6NBV, checked into Net for the 1st time from Mission Viejo.

 

8/01/2012 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/WB6IXN checked in KE6YHX, KF6EVX, AF6C, KJ6LHA, KJ6WNS(Steve), KJ6UJA, and KJ6YJW(Jess).  YHX, sledge hammer ready, is preparing to drive the ground rod for the shack, and Corey and AF6C briefly discuss food storage for earthquakes.  EVX briefly discusses an airport activity that will need ham volunteers for communications and Steve, WNS, was a 1st time check-in from Fullerton.  LJA ‘flew in and flew out’.  EVX was struck by a hit and run vehicle in a cross walk, receiving multiple injuries!  Ping, UJA, checked in wid usual 5/9 sigs, and Jess, YJW, in Newport Coast, will try to join us for an eyeball at Club meeting.  AF6C and Bruce, DLA, spend abt 4 hours on Wednesday mornings repairing talking books for the Braille Institute…They could use some help!...If interested,  mention it on the Nets, or give Bob, AF6C, a landline!

 

8/08/2012 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in KE6YHX, N6HC, W6HHC, WB6IXN, K6DNR, N8AE, and W6JTT.  YHX, AF6C, and IXN briefly discussed the two +4 mag. Events that took place on a minor Yorba Linda fault in the Whittier Fault Zone both yesterday and today.  YHX continues to upgrade his EQ supplies, and AF6C had just gone to get a cup of coffee at the Braille Institute when the EQ struck.  Bob is still looking for volunteer help to repair Talking Books at the Braille Institute!  HC asked AF6C if the OCARC was on ‘Log Book of the World’…AF6C will check our progress.     Arnie’s back is FB and HC alerted us to an overhead pass of ISS (Inernational Space Station) in abt 25 min.!...Then HC said the 9M4SLL DXpedition is in progress.  IXN wondered if the two +4 mag. Events were foreshocks of a bigger Event to come!  JTT, unable to hear NC, had HC relay for him…Sam was in bed when the EQ struck.  HHC’s house guests, Diane’s sister and her husband,  left this morning after much Bridge playing and whale watching.  DNR joined us after the RACES Net, and Bob still has QRN at the shack.   CA heat is beginning to wear on AE, and Carl & Dee felt both EQs.  AF6C then shut down the Net and we all went outside to see the ISS pass overhead from SSW to NNE!  We thank Arnie for the ISS pass info.!

 

8/08/2012 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/WB6IXN checked in KJ6LHA, K6DNR, W6JTT, KJ6UJA, W6HHC, AF6C, KJ6OML, KE6YHX, N6HC, N8AE/m, and KR6J.  LHA talked wid a Black Sea ham using an 11 element beam ant., and Ping, UJA, said everything shut down briefly at Disneyland during & after today’ EQ.  DNR & IXN experienced both shaking & rolling during today’s event.  JTT, lying down on the bed, experienced horizontal motion during the event, and we could not hear Sam’s check-in to the Nets from Idyllwild last week.  HHC’s daughter, in Yorba Linda, was abt a mile from the epicenter of the event, and Ken enjoyed the overhead flyby of the ISS.  AF6C, reading in bed when last nit’s event struck, experienced vertical motion, and Bob thanked Arnie for the ISS bypass info!...And Bob is now enjoying the fruits of his cherry tomato labors!  Steve, N6NBV, checked in from Mission Viejo wid 5/9 sigs.  Steve mentioned Bob, N6ZQF, who we hope to hear on future Nets!  YHX viewed the ISS bypass from up on the rood of the QTH!  KR6J ‘flew in and flew out’, and HC, who experienced a previous bypass of ISS in Hawaii on Field Day, was glad to hear OPs experienced this bypass successfully…Arnie did not feel today’s EQ!    AE, close to the epicenter, felt today’s event for abt 30 sec…and Carl, now back from the pharmacy, is abt to read his email as he joins Dee who is reading.  OML was on the computer during the event and he experienced a sideways motion.

 

8/15/2012 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in N6HC, W6HHC, KE6YHX, WB6IXN, K6DNR, KJ6OML, W6JTT, N6NBV(Steve), and N6ZQF(Bob).  HC asked about using the Club QSL card as a design for a personal QSL card.   All OPs agreed that it would be a great idea!   HHC, reminding OPs abt Club meeting Fri. eve, enjoyed the cooler, overcast WX today…And Ken said that N6GP & W6UX will be reporting on the Anacapa Island mini-DXpedition in the Sept. Newsletter.  YHX has now completed welding the ground cable to the ground rod, and Corey will write up the procedure for the Club newsletter.  IXN & YHX briefly discussed the recent 7+ event in the Kuril Island chain, and, IXN read an article abt water ice on Titan, a moon of Saturn.  DNR was on the vertical ant. tonite, and OML was down in the QRN at IXN’s QTH.  NC was down in the QRN at JTT’s QTH, making a relay necessary, and NBV, using his preamp tonite, had no traffic for the Net.  AF6C will be looking for a new printer in the near future, and Bob & DLA cleared the shelf of all Talking Books but 5 at Braille Institute today!...If anybody wud like to volunteer help wid serving Talking Book machines, contact AF6C.  ZQF checked in wid gud sigs from Fountain Valley.

 

8/15/2012 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/WB6IXN checked in K6DNR, AF6C, W6GMU, KE6YHX, W6JTT, WB9YCJ, KJ6OML, KJ6LHA, and KJ6UJA.  DNR reported lots of QRN on 10m tonite, and IXN reported that AF6C was ‘frying potatoes’ in the background on a rig he was testing tonite…Bob turned down the power and voila!...The potatoes stopped frying!  GMU reminded all abt Club meeting Fri. eve., and Paul also reported AF6C’s frying noise,and, on LHA’s announcement that UJA, Ping, was doing the dishes.  YHX & IXN briefly discussed the 7+ mag. Event in the Russian waters of the Kuril Island Trench, and, JTT removes morning glories growing on the antenna…Ask HHC abt morning glories, Sam!  YCJ checked into Net from the bleachers at Angel Stadium…The score was 7-1, and the home plate umpire had just been spiked by an incoming runner and was being carried off the field…The Angels won the game…Tnx, Ken!   UJA, done wid the dishes, checked in to tell us abt helping to inventory RACES supplies for Emergency Community Response.  OML continues to work on the 10m antenna.

 

8/22/2012 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in KE6YHX, WB6IXN, W6HHC, N6HC, KJ6OML, K6DNR, N6NBV, and N6ZQF.  Corey starts College next Tuesday, looking forward to a pre-calculus class.   IXN said the WX map showed a heavy marine layer off the coast.  HHC talked about the VK3RTV ‘check-ins Around the World’ DATV QSO Party that will link DATV and ATV stations around the world!.  Ken and Diane will be off to France in early Sept. for some R & R.  HC will plan to give a talk on the NH8S DXpedition at Nov. OCARC meeting.   OML, down in the QRN at IXN’s QTH, and the XYL joined AF6C at the Braille Institute today, and, Bob plans to attend his nephew’s upcoming wedding back East in Alpine, NY.  DNR joined us after the ARES Net, using the G5RV for NC, and the vertical ant. for everyone else.  BNV’s 43 ft. vertical ant. is doing FB, wid gud copy on Steve tonite, and ZQF also had gud sigs tonite.

 

8/22/2012 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/WB6IXN checked in KR6J, K6DNR, KJ6LHA, KJ6UJA, KG6OXD, N6ZQF, N6NBV, KE6YHX, KJ6OML, N2CNC/m, and AF6CF.  KR6J, preparing to attend a trade show thought AF6C might be interested to know that he is refurbishing a Heathkit DX-35 transmitter, similar to Kenan’s 1st transmitter in 1978!  Not much doing at DNR’s QTH…Bob is ‘kicked back’ listening to the Net.  LHA briefly talked about the Buddy Pole Antenna wid one other OP saying DX improved wid height.  UJA, no dishes tonite, was kicked back listening to the Net.  OXD, in the Eentral Coast region for 2 days, mentioned poor radio reception in the Central Coast region around Lompoc.  ZQF, wishing for lower humidity, hopes to have a tribander up by next week.  We’ll see ZQF and NBV at a future Club meeting for an eyeball QSO. YHX watches WX wid the Doppler viewer, and IXN told Corey abt having his feedline tarred to the roof!  OML may change the orientation of the G5RV ant., and CF checked in near Net’s end…Nicolas just got home from work!

 

8/29/2012 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in KE6YHX, KJ6NGF(Tim), W6JTT, KR6J, WB6IXN, KJ6OML, W6HHC, K6DNR, N6ZQF, and  N6NBV.  AF6C is ‘sprucing up the shack’ in preparation for a visit wid his sister from back East.   YHX missed the last soldering class at FD, and, Corey is tackling Calculus at college.  NGF(Tim) was down in the QRN at IXN’s QTH and Tim is using a 10m Ringo Ranger ant.   JTT had FB copy on HCC but couldn’t copy anyone else!  KR6J checked in mobile and wants to purchase Heathkit spray paint…Kenan is refurbishing a Heathkit DX-35.  IXN gave particulars on the 4+ EQ in Yorba Linda this afternoon, and OML, dwn in the QRN tonite, will get a new ant. tuner, and, Gene will help out a Braille Institute next Wed.    In Abt 2 weeks, HHC & Diane are off to France for some R&R, and Ken, down in Irvine at quake time, felt a strong jolt.  DNR & ZQF ‘flew in and flew out’.  NBV, in Mission Viejo, had some gud DX last week.

 

8/29/2012 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/WB6IXN checked in N6ZQF, KE6YHX, KJ6OML, KJ6JAY/m, W6JTT, N6NBV, AF6C, KR6J, KJ6TUE(Brian), W6HHC, N6RU(Richard), K6DNR, KJ6LHA, and KJ6UJA.  ZQF reported QRN on all sigs tonite, and YHX heard rattling at the QTH during the EQ as San Sevaine seismometer sounded off.  OML put up a new antenna and hopes to check it out wid an antenna analyzer.  JTT copied 10m sigs better on the horizontal ant. tonite, and NBV had gud DX the past week and is busy getting the daughter off to college.  AF6C, no reading book machine repair at Braille Institute today due to construction and moving, is cleaning up the QTH for a sister visit.  CJZ may have Chip Margelli on tap for Sept. Club meeting program.  HHC and AF6C helped KR6J clear up errant background noise on his sigs.  N6RU, Richard, checked in from Lakewood, and KJ6TUE, Brian, checked in from San Juan Capistrano.  DNR, LHA, and UJA all ‘flew in and flew out’.
