Corey reminds Clem there is no board meeting or general meeting in December. Corey and Greg tell of the banquet coming up. Clem noticed a steady rain today. Corey tells of the many fruitcakes he is baking this season. Greg makes a quick call for dinner, and will be on the 2M Net coming up. He will see us at the Christmas Party. W6ZE/KE6YHX Corey checks in Clem W0MEC Westminster, Greg W6ATB, Terrence AI6ZV Costa Mesa, Vijay KM6IZO Irvine, Phil K6PAD Huntington Beach, Tom W6ETC/Echolink. Clem is running a slim-jim up 26ft. The rain has let up a while, Clem says. He reads Greg, Terrence, and Net Control fine. Vijay is weak but readable. Greg is running 100W into a 3dB antenna up 36ft. His second-harmonics are working more and out shopping for the holidays. Ten meters was horrible, but 2M is good. Greg receives Clem at s9. The Geminid Meteor Shower is coming on Dec 7th, for meteor-scatter. He is fixing things around the shack. Corey is bringing a fruitcake to share at the banquet. Terrence activated SOTA on Circle Mountain in Wrightwood at 7000ft a few weeks ago. He made 16 contacts in 8 minutes on 20m. He had fun contacting Canada, the east coast, and all over the U.S. Then he worked 2m, and cut the trip short due to high winds. Terrence receives all OPs at s9+. Corey tells he runs a SolarCon A99 Vertical on 10M. Vijay is making a blonde ale, and is trying a citra hops brew. He says he likes fruitcake, too. Vijay tried to check in on 10m, but propagation was poor. He heard Net Control and Clem clearly. Vijay is looking forward to seeing everyone this Friday. Phil is running a 2M vertical antenna. He also has a Comet CHA-250B all-band vertical, and a Hy-Gain TH-3 Jr. for 10m. It has been a drizzly day, says Phil. Greg, Phil and Vijay will be at the Christmas Banquet at Mimi’s this Friday. Corey is coming, too. Tom gives some signal reports, and thanks Jeff for providing Echolink. Echolink had some transmit-blocking interference earlier. Tom is spending time with his second-harmonic, so he and XYL can’t make it to the Friday dinner. Tom and Corey talk about Echolink verification for a while. Gene says all is fine at his QTH. Last week, he was a little late, and couldn’t make the Nets. Corey set up his Christmas tree today. Gene has a battery-operated doorbell. Phil had a root canal at the dentist, today. Net Control is an s6, Gene is at s7, Greg was s8-s9, says Phil. Phil mentions house-current to doorbell transformers. Greg almost forgot the net; he is trimming the tree tomorrow, the same as Corey. Greg’s neighbor has an outdoor fiber optic tree. Corey goes on about his C7 incandescent twinkle bulbs; they are the old type, totally random. Greg says Merry Christmas. Bob receives all Q5. He did his Christmas shopping, and tells of the new lawn-cart tires he bought on Amazon. He saw Corey at the Christmas Party, along with Phil and Greg. Bob picked up a 50s Hallicrafters SX-71 receiver to restore. Vijay got a ring doorbell, and asks the voltage for those. Bob says it is 18VAC RMS. Vijay is brewing a whole bunch of beer for company over the holidays. He receives Net Control at s8. Sam has trouble copying due to high noise. Clem checks in late, and talks with Bob a bit. Corey says Merry Christmas, and reads each at s6.2, s5.2, 8dB over s9, 9dB over s9, s5.8, s4.8, and weak but readable, respectively. QRT 19:59 PST.

Sam has some noise on Net Control tonight, at an s3. Sam tries something different with his rig, and has some feedback. Sam had some atmospheric noise on 10M. Gene receives all OPs nice and clear. Gene solved the doorbell problem with a wireless one. Clem asks N.C. about his Christmas preparations and the fruitcake. Corey says all is well, and made several fruitcakes. Corey receives Clem full-copy. Clem receives N.C. at s7-s8. There was no rain, and late sunrise to early dark this time of the year, says Clem. Bob says hello, and asks Phil if his XYL was at the Christmas Banquet. Phil says yes, and relays her name. Bob picked up a Hallicrafters SX-71 receiver in good shape, but the rectifier tube plates were glowing, a bad sign. Corey asks if it is rack-mountable. It is a big and heavy thing at 18-1/2” wide, so it can’t be rack mounted, says Bob. Bob receives N.C. at F.Q., and everyone else with good copy. Vijay is booming-in as well. Bob got his Christmas shopping done, and his lights are up. Vijay receives all great except Clem. He got a new EZ-Digi to get started on FT8. Vijay is getting some new doorbell hardware tomorrow, and thanks Bob for the info from last time. Bob and Vijay talk about doorbells a little while. Corey asks the type of AC voltage. RMS, says Bob, and the new doorbell buttons at Ace are made by Heath. Vijay has a wireless WiFi video doorbell with a motion sensor, which takes a little more Ah than a momentary one. Phil recommends to Vijay checking the Volt-Amps on the doorbell for enough from the power supply. Phil receives Vijay at s7, Bob at s8, and the rest F.Q. He says the Hallicrafters SX-71 introductory price was $149.50 in 1949. Corey reads each at s5-s6, F.Q., s7, F.Q., s6, and full-copy, respectively. QRT 20:55 PST.

He says Merry Christmas to all. Sam is weak but switches antennas, and Corey reads him a little better. Gene relays, but couldn’t hardly hear him on the second go-round. Phil reads N.C. at an s5. He reports Santa on the air was on 3.916MHz and 14.3MHz in 2015. Vijay is about an s3. Vijay can hear Corey and Phil at an s8. There is a rocket launch from Vandenberg AFB, tomorrow at 5:30am, Vijay tells us. He asks for more information on Santa Claus on the Air in the afternoon or this evening. Phil says to Google it. Vijay is getting busy with guests coming. He turns it back to Net Control, and wishes us Happy Holidays. Corey reads each at s6.4, s5.0, s5.1, and s6.0, respectively. QRT 19:43 PST.

Clem copies Jack well, Net Control is 5-7. He couldn’t make the 10M Net, so Corey relays the check-ins. Corey asks how his Christmas preparations have been going. Clem says good, it has been kind of hectic around his QTH this time of year. N.C. is an s7, Vijay is s3 to s4, everyone else has a good, strong signal, says Clem. Propagation is bad on 10M and will remain so for the next couple days, according to HamNation, says Gene. He hears everyone clear on 2M, and says Merry Christmas. Sam says 10M was terrible, but all OPs are coming in well here on 2M. Sam says he had some interference, possibly a hobby arc welder. He is about ready for the holiday, and says Merry Christmas. Phil reports N.C. is s10; Clem is s10, Sam, Gene, and Jeff are all s10. He says all is set, and Merry Christmas. Jack is an s8 into Huntington Beach. Jeff says good evening to Corey and the Net. Vijay has a great signal, says Jeff. Jeff just installed some new Alexa Echo Dots in all the rooms at his QTH. They also work as intercoms, play music, and answer questions, says Jeff. Jeff got a 14-foot flatbed metal trailer he has been working on. He welded on new hinges. Phil relays for Jack, and Jack says Clem is 2 to 4 bars on his IC-2738. Merry Christmas and thank you, says Jack. Vijay found the frequency for the Santa Net. He will try a check-in at 4:30pm Pacific Time, tomorrow. Corey asks if they have it every year. He got a hot air popcorn popper for Christmas. Corey recounts the types of popcorn poppers. Some are in the range of $1000. Bob also got a spaghetti strainer for pasta. Corey notes he made mac & cheese last night. Bob says he has a recipe for mac & cheese with beef that Corey might like.
