The annual Christmas banquet was held at The Jägerhaus Restaurant (Same location as our monthly breakfast.) A great dinner was enjoyed by the members. Outgoing President Kristin - K6PEQ turned the gavel over to incoming President Willie - N8WP; but first she presented Rich - KE6WWK and Bev - KI6APH with the 2007 W6NGO Good of the Club Award. Awards of appreciation were also given to long-time members Bob - AF6C and Ken - W6HHC for their many years of behind the scenes help in keeping the club running smoothly and designing and maintaining the club website.
Following the passing of the gavel the special Christmas raffle was held. THe lucky winner of the ICOM Pro 3 was Kennan - N6CCE. There were also many lucky winners of other fine prizes.
Guest Speaker and member Willie Peloquin - N8WP, with the help of Ken Konechy - W6HHC, gave a talk and demonstration of PSK-31 keyboard to keyboard digital communications. Following the talk, Ken oversaw the election of the 2008 club officers.
The Orange County Amateur radio Club held its annual ham radio auction. Highlights were a Drake 2A receiver, a Kenwood TS430 and numerous handheld radios. Plus lots of test equipment and other goodies.
Dave Doody of JPL in Pasadena gave a fascinating presentation on the Cassini Space Probe now in orbit around saturn. Pictures only hours old of Saturn and its moons were shown. Has water been found on one of Saturn's moons?
Don Hill - KE6BXT spoke and demonstrated Amateur Fast-Scan Television at the August general meeting. Don's ATV setup and demonstrations were a big hit at the O.C. Fair.
(Day two of two.) Club Members again supported the Amateur Radio booth at the OC Fair.
At the July General Meeting Bob Grimmick - N6OX talked on the recent XT2C DX-pedition to Burkina Faso (formerly Upper Volta) in Africa. He presented a slide show on the operation from the city of Ouagadougou and their tourism adventures during their stay.
(Day one of two.) Club Members supported the Amateur Radio booth at the OC Fair. Activities included having kids send their name in Morse code, live ATV presentations, hands on radio demonstrations, and an electronics laboratory for the kids.
Orange County held its BIG club event Field Day in Los Alamitos, CA. The emergency exercise went off well, with everyone learning and having fun. Visit our FD Page for details.
Chip Margelli - K7JA (via video) and Gordon West - WB6NOA (live) presented the June pre-FD program.
Chip and Gordon went over the points we should all be aware of for the upcoming ARRL Field day Event. Knots, operation techniques and courtesy were all discussed.
Bob WT6A showed a surprise 1930 era ham radio promotional video.
Dennis Kidder - W6DQ presented the program at the May general meeting.
EME, also known as Moon Bounce, allows communication between two earth stations by bouncing your signal off the moon! Dennis and his group was able to get access to a 40 meter dish to experiment with EME and reach out to young students and introduce them to science.
OCARC Members assist COAR in supporting the Orange Police Dept. in the 2007 Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay. The Orange Police team finished in second place in their division. Congratulations!
The April general meeting speaker was April Moell - WA6OPS.
April explained about the Hospital Disaster Support Communications System that aids our Orange County hospitals during communications outages.
Mick Stwertnik - KB6JVT of NCG Company presented the program at our general meeting.
Mike discussed the latest and greatest products from NCG, Comet Antennas, Maldol and Daiwa.
The speaker at the February general meeting was Carl Gardenias - WU6D.
Carl, ARRL Orange Section manager, talked on re-energizing a radio club's membership base and how hams can get new people to join in on our hobby.
Bob Heil - K9EID, of Heil Sound, and his new VP of sales and marketing, Chip Margelli - K7JA, spoke at our January general meeting.
Bob is a noted speaker, member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and oh so knowledgeable on audio and microphones. Chip is the former manager of engineering/R&D development at Yaesu (Vertex Standard), noted DXer and participant in the Jay Leno Tonight Show CW vs. text messaging contest. With Chip's help, Bob gave us an honest presentation on how we can our improve audio and with it our ability to communicate more successfully.
