Once again we held our annual Holiday Dinner at the Jägerhaus. Great food, Great friends, Great prizes. This was an event you didn't want to miss. It was held at the same place we hold our monthly breakfasts. With our current President Willie - N8WP away on extended business, Vice President and acting President Nicholas - AF6CF turned the gavel over to himself as our new President. He also presented the 2008 Good of the Club Award to Larry Mallek - K6YUI. Congratulations to Larry.
For the second time in four years, Dan - N6PEQ won the grand prize - an ICOM IC-7200. Controversy reins in the club though as to whether he will get to keep it or if his wife - K6PEQ is furnishing her own ham-shack! Congratulations to Dan and Kristin! They have done so much to make our recent club events so much fun.
If you missed the party you missed a great event. Here's an online PDF copy of the flyer made for this event: See the Flyer.
Arnie Shatz - N6HC was our November guest speaker. He presented a slide show on the Clipperton Island DX-pedition and its trials and tribulations. Operational and planning problems haunted this DX-pedition, yet they were still able to amass a large number of contacts.
The radio club also held club elections for 2009.
A large number of members and their guests met at the PEQ's for a potluck lunch and gathering. The weather was sunny and warm; the food was great with many homemade recipes filling the food table. The BBQ team were eagerly cooking over the huge outdoor barbecue. The resulting sacrifice of many hot-dogs and hamburgers, soda and beer to the sunspot Gods seems to have had some effect!
Many attendees of the yearly October auction are now playing with their new possessions! A fun time was held by all, and the club even made a few dollars!
The club celebrated 75 years in existence (founded in 1933!) by inviting members and former members to a club reunion held in place of our regular September General Meeting. Over 60 members and former members joined us to catch up on what's been happening and share some good food and drink.
Some, who couldn't make the event physically, joined us via Skype

At the August General Meeting former Southwestern Division ARRL Director Art Goddard - W6XD reminded us that our Amateur License is a grant and not a right; we have to give service to the community to fulfill that grant. Currently, however, there is no organized data or estimate that details the training and benefits that ham radio operators provide to the country on a yearly basis. The Red Cross, Civil Air Patrol and many similar organizations provide yearly public reports. Should ham radio also provide such data? Should this be a task for the ARRL? These are some of the questions Art brought to light.
The Orange County Amateur Radio Club, for the second time this month, hosted the Orange County Fair Amateur Radio booth. Exhibitions of Morse Code, and Amateur Television as well as voice communications were presented to the public visiting the fair. Many young visitors got to send their name on CW! The club also hosted the fair on Sunday July 13th.

David Corsiglia - WA6TWF presented a talk on remote bases and his remotely controlled Super Station that may be used by station members.
The Orange County Amateur Radio Club hosted, for the first of two days, the Orange County Fair Amateur Radio booth. The club is also scheduled to host the booth on Wednesday July 30th.
The Orange County ARC held Field Day at the Los Alamitos JFTB. Setup began Friday afternoon, followed by a steak dinner. The main operation began at 11AM local time on Saturday and continued until 11AM Sunday. Pizza, Mexican food and a hearty breakfast kept the troops well fed during the event. Nine stations plus a GOTA (Get on the air) station were active during the contest.
For more information see OCARC Field Day web page.
Howard Brown - KG6GI was the guest speaker for the June General Meeting. He presented a program on D-STAR (Digital Smart Technologies for Amateur Radio). D-STAR is a digital communications technology that combines amateur radio and Internet VOIP for a hybrid communications system. He was assisted by programmer Brian Roode - NJ6N.
At the May General Meeting member Arnie Shatz - N6HC presented an interesting slide show and talk on the September 2007 3B7C DX-pedition to St. Brandon, located in the Indian Ocean (East of Madagascar).
This program was rescheduled from April.
The club would like to thank ARRL Section Communications Manager (SCM) Carl Gardenias - WU6D, who filled in on short notice for Arnie - N6HC (called away on sudden business). Carl gave an exciting interactive program on ARRL business and how clubs can improve our hobby and get new amateurs involved.
At our March meeting Jim Day - W6DF provided an overview of the W6BH mega-station in Anza. Numerous towers and antennas make this station a dream for virtually any amateur operator. Jim engineered this station. An amazing amount of work went into developing the large antenna farm.
For a surprise second program, Dino Darling - K6RIX provided an interesting slide show of the failed attempt at raising a new KNX KFI radio tower.
At the February General meeting Bob Farrow - N6OPR gave a very informative talk on 10 - 10 International. 10 - 10 is an organization that promotes the often under-utilized ten meter band. With propagation on the upswing ten meters will soon become a DX band again. To find out more go to: www.ten-ten.org.
Bill Scholz - W1HIJ was our featured guest speaker at the January General Meeting. Bill talked on the historic KPH coast station. KPH began broadcasting close to the dawn of radio. The station is now preserved by the Maritime Radio Historical Society. The station is located north of San Francisco on the coast with different transmitter and receiver sites eighteen miles apart.
Club Breakfasts and Board Meetings were held at The Jägerhaus, 2525 E. Ball Road in Anaheim on Saturday:
