9/01/2004 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in CCD and IXN.  CCD’s solder burn has healed nicely, but he’ll have a scar to help him remember it!…And Tom did a ’lil sailing frm Newport Beach after the fog lifted, and CCD will be off to England fer three weeks in Oct.  Then Tom told AF6C that he wud check up on VKZ to see how he is doing.  AF6C repaired an indoor/outdoor thermometer, and Bob is still contacting oldtimers fer attendance at the Club’s oldtimer get-together at Sept. meeting.  Bob mentioned talking wid Ron Cade, W6ZQ/ex-WA6FIT.  Ron may try to attend a future Club meeting.  AF6C reminded OPs abt the Club Bfast at Cowgirls II Sat. morning, and IXN confirmed that WA6DIJ, Jim Tripp, was a Club member in 1969…He lived in Anaheim then, and held a Advanced Class License.

 

9/01/2004 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/IXN checked in JD, AF6C, and BSV.  Seems that many OPs must have been glued to their ‘boob tubes’ watching the Republican Nat. Convention.  Wid the City of Orange Street Fair this weekend, JD will be participating wid the COAR group providing communications…JD will miss the Club Bfast on Sat.  AF6C continues to contact old time Club members and download Sherlock Holmes audio frm the Gutenberg Project…And Bob said that HHC might be bk frm Europe by this weekend.  Wid the sparse Net check-in, BSV called this the ‘quality not quantity’ net.  And Carl will miss the Club Bfast Sat. morning…He’s off to Bakersfield fer the weekend.  AF6C asked BSV what his future plans for the ‘big insulator boat anchor’ entailed…Carl said he might use it for a lamp base.

 

9/05/2004 40m OCWN CW Net – NCS/UEB checked in IMW, IB, HKT, KS6CW, KA6G, KFW, RND, OIO, VDP, and NT.  UEB, enjoying the long weekend, plans to take a hike wid Ian & Jill after the Net.  IMW’s visitors have left, the QTH is quiet, and Ian is putting on his boots…HI!  IB, wid 98 deg. WX in Loomis, finds working around the place is a gud way to lose weight…HI!  HKT missed last week’s Net, He was in Phoenix at the ARRL SW Div. Convention…Barry Goldwater’s gear was set up, but alas, no key for Net checkin!…Homer told UEB that the food was vy expensive!  CW told OPs that the Sat. W6MTC Net will nw be at 20 WPM by popular demand!  KA6G, wid QRN at the QTH, said the W6MTC new net speed started two weeks ago, and KFW & XYL are off to the harmonic’s house fer a ’lil barbecue.  RND, wid temp. already 82 deg. at the QTH, is enjoying the warm, beautiful WX.  OIO, 10 days past the eye surgery, has 3 weeks to go before she’s measured fer new glasses.  VDP sold his Argonaut to a QRP ham in Chicago, and Larry, a past tennis player, has been enjoying watching the tennis matches at Wimbledon.  Wid the old rig expected bk by next Sunday, the barn and horses gone, NT will soon leave The Hill fer a new QTH!

 

9/08/2004 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in LDC, CCD, N1AB/GZ, IXN, HHC, and VKZ.  AF6C told OPs that IXN will be bringing Club memorabilia to the Sept. Old-timers Club meeting.  LDC attended the Elk’s Labor Day Rally at the Elks Club, and Larry suggested that the Club investigate Elks Park as a possible FD site.  El Presidente has changed his call!…He’s now N1AB…OPs responded wid suffixes such as AttaBoy, Atom Bomb, and Always Broke, etc.  IXN read a blurp about Black Holes, and Bob told OPs about intestinal drop in the elderly.  CCD gave a brief medical news report on VKZ.  And VKZ joined us to say that the Doc will visit him Fri. to see what is going on!  VKZ asked HHC if he ran into Frank’s brother on his German river trip…HHC said that he didn’t think they were on the same tour.  ‘Up the Main and down the Rhine, tasting beer, sausages and wine’, partially sums up HHC and Diane’s recent trip to Europe.

 

9/8/2004 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/IXN checked in JD, AF6C, and KFW.  JD said COAR will have to raise the 1.2 GHz ant. in order to get reliable communications back to the Command Post…And JD will be off to the Opthomologist to get his eyes checked soon.  AF6C proposed next Tues. fer a visit to Elks Park, near Trask & Newhope, to check it out as a possible FD site.  Lee Evans has volunteered to watch the door for late arrivals come Sept. Club Meeting, and KFW said he had temps frm 101-103 at the QTH!…And Chris told IXN that UEB hasn’t sent back OCWN notes out as yet.  UEB, out hiking wid IMW last Sunday, left NC duties in RND’s hands.

 

9/12/2004 40m OCWN CW Net – NCS/UEB checked in IMW, IB, KS6CW, KA6G, GVG, VDP, HKT, KFW, and NT.  UEB & XYL went to the XYL’s company picnic at Seaworld, San Diego, yesterday…And Rick will Net session reports today.  IMW put a whip ant. on the truck yesterday and worked a few 6m stations in the VHF QSO Contest.  IB has a gud friend, Marc, W6SQL, who just got his General ticket…Casey hopes to hve him check into Net soon!  CW is now in a Spanish choir…Now Kathy will be able to enjoy the Net in its entirety for the whole year!  KA6G reported 3 Morse Telegraph Club nets on Sat…one on 20m, the regular nets, and a fast one.  GVG spent three weeks in Italy, eating too much pasta, drinking FB vino, and returning to exotic Bonsall…HI!  VDP is working on the Hiram Percy Award by working /135 stations…Today is the last day, so Larry will go bk to 20m SSB after Net.  HKT isn’t hving much luck making Route 66 contacts, getting only Victorville and St. Louis…Next week he’ll be in Laughlin and visit the Kingman Hamfest sponsored by the Hualapai ARC.  KFW, trying to keep cool, announced the OCARC past members reunion at next Friday’s Club meeting.  The City paid NT fer The Hill, wid a Dec. 31st deadline to vacate…And Ray got the old rig bk and it still doesn’t work!

 

9/15/2004 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in LDC, HHC, IXN, VKZ, and CCD.   LDC needs info on Photoshop, and Larry tuned up on the 6m vert. At Net’s beginning.  LDC, HHC, AF6C, and N6TM all met fer lunch at the Elks Club.  Then they viewed the park fer a possible FD site. LDC, wishing to lose sum weight and get sum exercise, joined a weight training class at Golden West College…Nw LDC is preparing fer a 4-day Halloween party at the Elks Club.  HHC enjoyed lunch at the Elks Club, and Ken said we hve a possible new FD site!  HHC & AF6C mentioned DIJ, a former Club member who moved to Silicon Valley a number of years ago, and IXN said that the Elsinore Fault has been vy quiet frm the 55 Fwy to the Mexican border.   When you talk wid AF6C at Club meeting, ask him who ‘Frankenstein without the electrodes’ is?!  RND needs a ride to Club meeting Fri. eve., and AF6C has made sum new Club member badges.  VKZ has a ride to Meeting, and Frank will soon be off to Portland, OR, to visit harmonic Susie.  CCD got bk frm Phoenix frm a vy hot visit wid the harmonic & the grandharmonics.

 

9/15/2004 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/IXN checked in JD, AF6C, BSV, TWA, KFW, CCE, MIH, and MIG.  IXN learned that Jeannie Talcott’s sister, Pepper, passed away.  Jeannie is in Texas at present visiting her older sister.  IXN told JD that the warm WX might be drying his eyes, thus making them red.  And JD is preparing fer the COAR drill come Oct. 2…And Lowell said that PFA has another tumor and will undergo removal this Fri.  AF6C said oldtimers interested in ‘RF’ can pick it up on the Club website.  KFW will make a sign-in sheet fer oldtimers at Club Meeting.  BSV will resist bifocals as long as possible.  And Carl first checked in mobile.  TWA, still on dialysis, had a heart attack 3 wks ago and the docs discovered that Charles has an aneurism!…TWA has a lot of stuff fer the Club Auction!   KFW will have name tags fer old timers nite sign-ins, and Chris enjoyed a nice dinner at the Elks Club in Santa Ana.  CCE told Ops abt a ham wid a tower trailer that we might use at FD, and Kenan wants to see the possible FD site at the Elks Club in GG…Kenan is now gainfully employed and is practicing up on his roller hockey skills.  MIH is home resting in bed and doing home schooling since his operation fer scoliosis 2 wks ago, and Kevin and MIG told Ops abt a model rocketry event, sponsored by the So. Ca. Rocket Assoc., which will take place at the Lucerne Dry Lake Bed launch site south of Barstow near Victorville.  If you are interested in attending rocket launches, call (714)529-1598 evenings.

 

9/19/2004 40m OCWN CW Net – NCS/UEB checked in IMW, IB, KS6CW, KA6G, GVG, OIO, KFW, RND, VDP, and NT.  UEB, wid OP sigs down this morning, hoped all were hving a nice weekend.  And IMW, blaming any mistakes on Thunder (HI!), is sacrificing radio time to remodel and re-tile the kitchen.  IB, wid a feel of Fall in the air, told Ops that he became a grandfather fer the first time last week…Casey will miss Net nxt Sun…He’ll be in Washington to see his new grandaughter!  And CW ‘flew in’ and ‘flew out’ to attend a picnic fer the entire day.  The ‘King of Anaheim’, ie: KA6G, questioned his ‘royal status’ after NCS anointed Jim wid the new title (HI!)…And Jim still hasn’t found the source of the Saturday QRN at the shack!  GVG, wid FB WX in Bonsall, is glad to be bk fer a couple of weeks.  OIO’s carving club spent last weekend at the Dana Point Tall Ships Festival, wid the group having enuf carving to last fer a year!  Chris told Ops abt the successful Oldtimer’s nite at the Sept. OCARC meeting, and RND also enjoyed Oldtimer’s nite at the Club, hving missed VDP at the Meeting…John sent congrats to IB on becoming a grandpa!  VDP finally worked 71/135 stations, and Larry had a nice visit wid NT up on The Hill last Thursday…Now Larry has to repair the loop ant. that won’t load! 

 

9/22/2004 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in LDC, CCD, and IXN.  LDC leaves tomorrow fer a 3-day weekend campout wid the Burbank Elks at a lake near San Dimas. And Larry said that steel has tripled in price as he explained the cost of a barbecue constructed frm a 55 gal drum cut in half lengthwise…LDC also alerted Ops to the need to make reservations fer the Club Christmas dinner.  IXN gave kudos to AF6C, XO, and HHC fer arranging and executing the excellent program fer old-timers at the Sept. Club meeting.  CCD ‘flew in’, gave a gud sig rpt on all Ops, and ‘flew out’ to din-din.  HHC went to visit PFA tonite, and AF6C and IXN discussed meeting wid old-timers at Club meeting last Fri. eve.

 

9/22/2004 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/IXN checked in TRA, BWH, and KFW.  IXN told Ops that HHC was visiting PFA tonite after Tom had surgery last week.  TRA had a busy summer getting the house texture coated and taking care of chores while the XYL had surgery fer the removal of two abdominal tumors!…And Gene explained the difficulties of getting his antennas connected properly after the texture coating was completed.   BWH checked in mobile and IXN told Bob that Robin, HNY, didn’t make it to last Club meeting.  KFW and IXN talked abt early snowfall in Utah, Idaho, and CA mountains, and Chris said that Bill Hall, CQR/N6EDY, has re-joined the Club!  KFW said 35 people attended last Club meeting.  And IXN passed kudos along to all that helped arrange the excellent old-timer’s night program!…And to those who missed last Club meeting, you missed a good one!!

9/26/2004 40m OCWN CW Net – NCS/UEB checked in KS6CW, KA6G, RND, KFW, OIO, VDP, and NT.  All stations had 599 sigs but OIO, whose sigs were 569.  NCS surveyed Net members to determine what type of keying device they use: straight key, paddle, bug or keyboard.  CW, using a Bencher paddle, E-mailed Ops a pix of the “CW Boys”.   And KA6G uses a CMOS 3 keyer and a Vibroplex paddle.  RND uses a Bencher paddle into a homemade kit, the CMOS Super Keyer 2.  KFW, using a Bencher paddle, will soon be off to visit the 11 month old harmonic who is just beginning to walk.  And OIO, picking up her new glasses tomorrow, is using a Bencher paddle to a Logikey keyer here.  VDP was using a different rig today, a Yaesu 840, wid a Vibroplex paddle to an Idiom Press keyer.  Up on the Hill, NT uses a home-brew keyboard, but Ray generally uses an old McElroy bug through a processor that shapes the dits.

 

9/29/2004 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in IXN, LDC, NOL, CCD, and HHC.  IXN answered questions frm LDC and AF6C on current events at Mt. St. Helens, and, recent EQ activity on the San Andreas Fault, and, the 5 mag. Event near the White Wolf/Kern-Breckenridge Faults.  LDC cannot attend a Thurs. nite Board meeting, and HHC said there cudn’t be a Sat. morning Board meeting until after 11 am due to the COAR-RACES exercise taking place earlier that morning.  NOL & JAY got bk 9/14 frm the World T-Hunt Championship event in Austria, where NOL operated as OK5FOX and enjoying every minute of the pileup on his end!…Now Richard is looking forward to the CA QSO Party this weekend.  CCD felt the 5 mag. Parkfield event up in Fresno, and Tom said he’ll be off to England, and then on to Italy fer three weeks…Then Tom went QRT fer din-din.  Other than CCD, no Ops felt any EQ activbity here.  And HHC said the Club Board meeting will be reshceduled fer Oct. 9 at 8:00 am.  And most Ops on the Net favored OCARC-Ham.org as our new website address.

 

9/29/2004 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/IXN checked in JD, KFW, and AF6C.  JD was gone most of the day attending a retirement luncheon for a retiring buddy, and now, Lowell is preparing fer the COAR-RACES drill come Sat.  KFW said the OCWN had a gud check-in last Sun., and AF6C said there might be a OCARC Board meeting after the COAR-RACES exercise on Sat.  AF6C is looking forward to the Octoberfest at Boeing next Wed., and Bob asked IXN which direction to point his EQ ant.
