11/2/2005 10m Phone Net - W6ZE/AF6C checked in IXN, CCD, and HHC.  At standard time change, AF6C re-set 31 various clocks around the QTH, and Bob just finished listening to Jimmy Carter on the Larry King Live show before turning on the rig.  IXN, wid laryngitis, had audio distortion deluxe tonite!…And Bob has finished the new seismometer antenna.  CCD has no skiing plans as yet, but Tom & the XYL are off to England fer a family gathering come July…CCD also worked 2 Cuban stations on 15m during the WWDX Contest, ant Tom is looking forward to the digital presentation at next Club meeting.  HHC spent last weekend constructing the 30m ant. that he designed, and Diane managed to twist her knee, soon to be followed by twisting her ankle!…(Diane!…What were you doing?!!)…El Presidente then announced the Club Bfast come Saturday, and Ken said that the Club netted $260 frm the auction!…(Tnx to all OPs who made the auction a success!!)  HHC then said tht he must contact N1AB abt Steve’s upcoming antenna party.

 

11/2/2005 2m Phone Net - W6ZE/IXN checked in N1AB, JD, VDP, HHC, AF6C, and IEB.  AF6C mentioned that he had been in charge of the high voltage lab at work for a period of time, and Bob will air Newsline file at Net’s end.  AB, looking to hve sum OP help come Nov. 12 at 9:30 am, will try to figure a way to raise & lower a 30 ft. support pole using only one man!…Gud luck, OPs!…Steve will also better secure the sections of the mast, and, re-string a pulley at the top.  JD, like IXN, enjoys kicking bk and relaxing frm the many years of pressure & stress working a daily job!   All OPs were S9 or better at NC’s QTH, and VDP got some Philmore Connectors at the Candy Store (HRO), and Larry told AB that he can lower his 33 ft. ant. mast.  El Presidente, Ken, told OPs that Al Dodds, NÆKJV, hving had a couple of strokes in the past, passed away last Sunday…And HHC will erect the new 30m ant. in the backyard and test it after the Club Bfast on Sat.  AF6C finished a CW Identifier unit, and Bob will miss AB’s ant. party…Bob has a previous appointment in San Diego…Bob then aired IPOD Newsline file #1472…Contech/Mannassis Power has been ordered to shut down BPL operations for being unable to meet interference suppression requirements!…Tnx, Bob.

 

11/6/2005 40m OCWN  CW Net - NCS/UEB checked in IMW/6, HKT, GVG, IB, KS6CW, KA6G, RND, OIO, IC, IXN, VDP, NT, and NXY.  UEB told OPs that congrats are in order fer SQL’s upgrade to Extra!  And Ian, wid ’lil news today, had bad QRM today.  HKT and TARA OPs get ready fer the worst as they practice sending members out to check on hospitals, schools, public bldgs., and streets, etc., after a disaster, and report back to the PD.  GVG said the avocados, oranges, limes, lemons and other subtropical fruits will ripen in a month or so.   IB, noting SQL’s jump to Extra, experienced fading, but readable, sigs in Meadow Vista.  CW enjoyed the Morse Telegraph Club meeting’s two speakers…One was the director of the So. Calif. Chapt. of the Nat. Assoc. of Railroad Passengers, who spoke on keeping AMTRAK is business so we can continue to enjoy train travel…The other speaker spoke on his charter railcar business called the Overland Trail. 

While working the CW Sweepstakes, KA6G had a wee bit of trouble copying call signs at 23 & 30 wpm!  And RND, glad to be rid of the QRM, reported 61.5 deg. F wid sun breaking thru the gloom.  OIO cudn’t open the EXE files after a ’lil ‘bleep’ on the computer!…All that is left now is a complete reload, Ann hving lost all that wasn’t backed up.  IC tells Ann to hang in there, and Fred tells all OPs to get out and vote on Tues., Election Day.  IXN has the seismometer antenna bk up and is once agn monitoring San Sevaine seismometer on 163.795 MHz.  VDP is busy wid the yard work, and NT, wid the e-mail bk in operation and sum QSOs completed on the new DX ant., is watching the fog lift at the beach.  NXY, wid strong 50W sigs, is now faced wid eating gobs of chocolate after hving vy few trick-or-treaters last Monday nite! 

 

11/9/2005 10m Phone Net - W6ZE/AF6C checked in IXN & HHC.  Wid scratchy speakers, AF6C removed the auto door panels to discover speaker cones broken away frm their frames!…Bob thinks that he has found replacement speakers.  AF6C will be off during the Holidays to visit his sister in the Boston area, and, Bob has a Newsline file to air on the 2m Net.  HHC completed Nov. ‘RF’ which he will now forward to PEQ to send out snail mail copies…And HHC said a couple of Club offices remain open fer the taking!…Ken also has an article in ‘RF’ on how to build a 30m ant.  IXN told OPs that they can monitor San Sevaine seismometer on 163.795 MHz., and Bob read a short article that said the sun had to be shining before the solar system planets were formed!

 

11/9/2005 2m Phone Net - W6ZE/IXN checked in JD, AB, HHC, and AF6C.  JD worked on the Election Board, said that COAR has problems wid a beam ant., and is already fer the rain tonite.  AB invited OPs to the ant. party at the QTH come Saturday…Steve has a 35ft pushup mast that must come down for modification and minor repairs…Steve estimates abt 1 hour is needed to complete the job.  RUI & PA hve heard frm VKZ back East, said HHC, and by this time, Frank should be living in the Assisted Living Care Center…HHC also announced a need fer OPs to help wid communications at the Veteran’s Day Parade in Tustin on Nov. 13, and Ken will have ‘RF’ up on the web by Fri. nite…Sheryl will hve Christmas Dinner tickets, $21 each, wid her at Nov. Club meeting, and Ken said the Nov. Club program will feature digital voice communications.  AF6C checked in later after a landline wid Mark, NOT…And Bob asked if any OPs had heard frm BWH in Sheldon ND…Bob’s e-mail adr and snail mail adr are listed on the private roster…AF6C then aired Newsline file #1473, and surprise! Surprise!…British hams do not want a lifetime license!…They like the status quo!…Tnx, Bob.

 

11/13/2005 OCWN 40m CW Net - NCS/UEB checked in SQL, IMW/6, HKT, GVG, IB, OIO, KS6CW, KA6G, RND, IXN, NXY, NU6T, IC, and NT.  Rick will be driving up to El Segundo for a short work task this morning, and then bk home for more college essay writing which shud be completed by TG weekend.  IMW made e-mail contact wid NT at last, more difficult than DX…HI!   Next Sunday, HKT will miss Net…Starting Fri., he’ll be gone fer 4 days to the desert.  GVG heard all Net sigs in Avacado Country, wid NCS garnering a sig rpt of 20+!!   IB had a 47 deg. temp. in the cool, clear foothills, and Casey likes hearing more northern Californians checking into Net!  Wid Norton corrupted, OIO finally got the computer bk online using NOD 32…wid Ann wondering what NOD 32 will cost?  CW’s cousin will arrive at the QTH Wednesday from a trip to Australia, and Kathy is looking forward to turkey day!  KA6G QRUs after reporting a temp. of 60 deg. in Anaheim…And RND hates to break Jim’s heart, reporting the official temp. of 59.8 deg. at the QTH…HI!…And John plans a walk this afternoon to ejoy the beautiful WX.  IXN reported info. on the OCARC Christmas dinner at Jagerhaus restaurant.  Info can be found at www.w6ze.org.  NXY plans to mow the lawn and hang a 17 meter dipole today, and NU6T reported a temp. of 58 deg. in sunny Fair Oaks…K1S QLF.  IC helped wid voting at the poll on Tues., went to a high school play, “Teahouse of the August Moon”, wid grandharmonics playing major parts, and, we’re off to Tallahassee to visit our new grandbaby next week.  NT, wid gud sigs and disappearing fog in Corona del Mar, understands DX, but, Internet & e-mail?…I’m lost!…Anyway, Ray got the e-mail bk in order.

 

11/16/2005 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/HHC temp/AF6C checked in PEQ, IXN, AF6C, and HHC.  HHC opened the Net just before AF6C arrived home frm Long Beach, where Bob had been attending a retirement party for a fellow worker at Boeing…And AF6C said, as he prepares fer a Christmas holiday trip bk East, that air travel is now vy expensive!  And PEQ worked an OP in Nicaragua using the 30m rotatable dipole.  El Presidente said that a $15 hundred IC-7000 rig will be raffled at the Christmas Dinner!…And Ken worked a JA4 on the new 30m ant. that he constructed, and IXN busied himself removing outer, woven copper conductor frm old foam coax stored at the QTH.

 

11/16/2005 2m Phone Net - W6ZE/IXN checked in ZGR, JD, AB, HHC, and AF6C.  ZGR has moved frm Silverado Canyon to Santa Ana to take care of his mom, and Dale is still using solar power wid battery backup.  JD will hve sum of the grandharmonics over fer TG, and Lowell & XYL will visit the daughter’s home fer a 1 yr old BD.  AB, still working on ant. repairs, will obtain a free 30+ ft. high ant. mast…Then Steve will be ready fer the ant. party!  HHC announced the Digital Voice Modulation program fer Friday’s Club meeting, and Ken also told OPs that the grand raffle prize at the Christmas dinner will be a EICOM IC-7000 rig valued at $1500!  AF6C had a gud time entertaining  an ‘old flame’, frm 39 years bk, in San Diego last week…And Bob has installed two new Pioneer speakers in the auto, wid two left to go.  Then AF6C aired Newsline file #1474…Australia now has a 90 page license manual for the new Foundation License…The Aussies hve now gone frm 5 licenses down to Standard & Advanced…Tnx, Bob!

 

11/20/2005 OCWN 40m CW Net - NCS/UEB checked in IMW, KS6CW, KA6G, IB, NXY/QRP, OIO, RND, NT, IXN, and VDP.  UEB’s harmonic had her 17th BD party last nite, wid 9 teenage girls packing into the QTH…Lots of noise!…HI!  IMW congrats UEB on surviving 17 yrs, and Ian went to Chino Hills swap meet yesterday & picked up more e-Bay fodder…HI!  Yesterday, CW received the DVD frm Locust Grove in the mail, which Kathy will show on Morse Day 2006.  KA6G cleaned his Vibroplex paddles fer the 1st time in 30 yrs…Now Jim has two Vibroplex paddles on line!  IB will be around home fer TG this year, wid a quick trip to the Bay area to see his Mom.  And NXY got his flu shot yesterday, and Mike told NCS that he was running 500 milliwatts power today!  OIO, wid lots of QRN at the shack, spent the last 2 days getting the shower drain open…It took 2 bottles of drain opener & lots of hot water!…Ann will not wait another 8 yrs before treating the drains!  RND reported a temp. of 75.1 deg. in Orange wid Summer still hanging on.   NT, congratulating UEB on surviving 17 yrs wid the harmonic, told Rick that better things are coming!…HI!  IXN told the Net that KFW, VDP, and he talked wid WF1A, Franklin, who lives in Niland near the Salton Sea…He will try to check into the OCWN in the near future!  VDP reported a FB OCARC meeting last Fri…AOR demo’d their digital SSB modem…Also, the Club Christmas dinner will have a gud raffle, including a $1500 rig!  

 

11/23/2005 10m Phone Net – Turkey Day eve finds AF6C under the WX wid a sore throat & laryngitis, so el Presidente, HHC, assumes NC duties.  Ken checked in LDC and IXN…Both Larry & Bob tell HHC that he is drifting in frequency.   LDC had an angiogram and experienced post-angiogram bleeding.  IXN also had the same problem when they x-rayed his kidneys…LDC & XYL will be motor-homing to the beach near Camp Pendleton wid other campers on Friday.  IXN asked HHC if he had heard that VKZ might be coming back to So. CA.  HHC confirmed the rumors, saying that RUI had mentioned a possible VKZ return to the Southland.  Come the weekend, HHC will put a new N-connector on a 1.2 GHz feedline, and Ken will try to contact VKZ’s brother, Ralph, too the late news on Frank.  And Ken offered LDC help when Larry gets ready to put up the new beam ant.

 

11/23/2005 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/IXN checked in JD & HHC…XYLs must hve OPs busy in the kitchen preparing fer Turkey Day!  AF6C will check in if he is able, and air Newsline file.  IXN announced a foot+ of snow fer Ohio, PA, etc…And JD quipped, “And now you know why you moved to CA!”  JD announced the ham get-together at Watsons at 7:30am com Friday, and HHC will try to mount an outside ant. on the T-Bird over the weekend.  IXN wished JD & HHC a happy TG.

 

11/27/2005 OCWN 40m CW Net - NCS/UEB checked in HKT, GVG, KS6CW, IB, IC, OIO, KA6G, RND, IXN?, NT, NXY, and VDP.  No IXN!…Bob & brother, Lee, were visiting their neice & husband in Garner Valley in the Santa Rosa Mts. over TG and the weekend.  HKT, wid lots of wind in Torrance last nite, had 3 gud days of dirt roads in NV & AZ last week.  GVG reported no wind in north San Diego County.  And KS6CW had a wonderful TG holiday wid friends in Riverside/Hemet.  Winter condx have arrived in Meadow Vista fer IB, wid clouds, low 30s temps, and frost, and Casey worked 6 countries on the low end of 40m in abt 45 min. late last nite!  IC & XYL flew bk to Tallahassee via Minneapolis, which made Fred appreciate So. CA…HI!  OIO got her new glasses…Now Ann knows when the house needs dusting!…HI!  KA6G, wid bad QRN on Net sigs, put a heater in the shack so that he can keep warm.  RND, wid cool WX at Net time, said his thermometer quit working…John & XYL stayed home fer TG, wid John eating turkey ever since…HI!  NT, wid nice WX at the beach, finally got 100 fer 17m countries…Now Ray can RIP!…HI!  NXY, using 50W, reported 38 deg. temp. in Fremont, and Mike had a great TG…Now it’s time fer ‘Lean Cuisine’!…HI!  VDP, wid a gud day at TRW, still has too much stuff to sell at the swap meets…And Larry was able to copy all wid a S9 noise level!

 

11/30/05 10m Phone Net - W6ZE/HHC checked in AF6C, CCD, and IXN.  HHC assumed NC duties for laryngitic AF6C…Bob is still overcoming an attack of laryngitis!  HHC got an outside ant. mounted to the auto over the weekend, and Ken & Dianne had 16 family members at the QTH fer TG.  AF6C picked up a Brother laser printer fer a gud price, but now Bob has to remedy a noise in the printer!   CCD checked in just in time to hve the XYL call him to din-din…Tom has company coming in, and then its off to Colorado fer a few days.  AF6C has a Newsline file fer the 2m Net, and IXN said that WF1A, Franklin, will try to check into the Sunday OCWN Net.

 

11/30/05 2m Phone Net - W6ZE/IXN checked in JD, HHC, CCE, and AF6C.  JD said it was nice to hear CCE bk on the Net, and Lowell had his two oldest boys & families at the QTH fer TG…JD & XYL are just abt ready fer Christmas, and Lowell is hunting fer an ant. fer the ATV transceiver.  HHC didn’t answer NC’s turn-over…Ken had picked up the wrong mike!…El Presidente reminded all not to forget the Club Bfast come Saturday, and Ken got the mobile ant. mounted on the T-Bird.  CCE quickly removed the source of hum on his sigs, and Kenan will e-mail his ballot fer the “Good-of-the-Club” award…Kenan got a lot of work done over TG, hving just got bk frm a trip to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where he met a YL…Hm!…Will Kenan become a VE3?!…Stay tuned!  IXN & Lee were with their Niece & husband in the Santa Rosa Mts. over the holiday weekend, and AF6C then aired an interesting Newsline #1476…N6TCQ once again pleaded fer funds fer ARNewsline to continue to be aired!
