02/03/2010 10m Phone Net – AF6C, late din-din, and a ’lil under the WX, had W6HHC assume NC duties…Ken-W6ZE/W6HHC checked in N6HC, WB9YCJ, WB6IXN, AF6CF, NI6E, and AF6C (later in Net).  HC sent HHC pictures of the Midway Is. DXpedition, and Arnie needs a new Club QSL card…HC also mentioned that 10m has been open evenings.  HHC told IXN to contact GMU once agn for a donation letter. YCJ can’t wait fer Spring baseball action to commence after the Superbowl, and those pretty Japanese YLs he’ll meet at Angel Stadium!  AF6CF, down in the QRN, had a slight mushiness to his speech tonite, and YCJ & NI6E compared notes on former locations in Illinois.  AF6C didn’t feel too well after cleaning up the QTH all day in preparation for a family visit from back East, which may be cause for Bob to miss the Club Bfast.

 

02/03/2010 2m Phone Net - W6ZE/IXN checked in AF6CF, K6VDP, W6FKX, KR6J, WB9YCJ, KE6YHX, AF6C, W6HHC, K6ATJ, and KF6EVX.  AF6CF heard all OPs well, and Nicholas must now think abt replacing a dead auto.   VDP will go to AZ this weekend, WX permitting, and Larry, IXN, and other Net OPs received their new Club QSL cards…(Tnx, Bob, AF6C).   FKX enjoyed the 10m Net, but he cudn’t hear NC!...And Doug made his 1st CW contact on 20m!  KR6J will hv bicycle race in abt 2 weeks…Kenan may use it as a practice run…At the Palm Springs Hamfest last week, Kenan’s raffle tickets didn’t win, and KR6J will now begin study fer his General Commercial Radio License!  YCJ announced that we will have an Orange County Fair this year, and that there may be restrictions on how the Fairground’s new owners can use the property.  YHX and IXN are still looking for the location of the 171.405 MHz seismometer, and Corey starts college on Monday…YHX will join us on the Thursday nite 2m Net.  AF6C, vy busy at the QTH & a ’lil under the WX, didn’t have time to air ARRL Audio News.  EVX said that ARRL has been doing sum program revamping, but that ARRL Audio News is still being aired.   Down East Microwave sent HHC his new 1.2 GHz amplifier for DATV which Ken will soon put on the air!...And IXN cudn’t find any mention of a ARRL Convention at the Disneyland Hotel, in 1960, in OCARC Historical Records!

 

02/10/2010 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6c checked in W6HHC, WB6IXN, WB9YCJ, and N6HC.  AF6C, HHC, and IXN all briefly discussed the 3.8 mag. Earthquake in Illinois today. Ken’s XYL, Diane, & daughter, made a very safe trip to and from the Gemstone Show meeting in Tucson, AZ.   IXN thanked Ken for the revamped write-up of Part 5 of the Club History, and, the Club History page on the Website.  AF6C is caught up presently wid mailings of the new Club QSL Cards, and Bob has recorded an ARRL Audio News to be aired on the 2m Net.  YCJ is ready fer the New Year…Chinese, that is!  HC will be hosting the California Contesters fer a meeting come Sunday at the QTH…And Arnie and other OPs certainly heard enough about ‘Katrina’ during the Superbowl Game!

 

02/10/2010 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/WB6IXN checked in KB6CJZ, W6FKX, KR6J, WB9YCJ, W6HHC, and AF6C.  CJZ & HHC are testing a new 1.2 GHz 10W DATV amplifier. FKX and IXN will check to see if the Illinois EQ today is part of the New Madrid Fault system…And Doug & family visited the Richard Nixon Library.  KR6J rode abt 43 miles today in preparation for an upcoming bicycle race in San Diego, and Kenan busies himself making 2m j-pole antennas.  YCJ & IXN discuss the pros & cons of using aspirin, and HHC just received ‘Feb. RF’ from Kristin to put up on the club WEB site.   If you haven’t checked Ken’s new History Page on the web, do it!  AF6C, listening to Net above the vacuum, is still cleaning fer company arriving from back East this weekend, getting all items off the floor that a baby can stick in its mouth!  AF6C then aired the Jan. 28, 2010, ARRL Audio News…The Haitian Govt. has set up temporary offices in Haiti for hams to come to Haiti to provide communications for earthquake victims (see Jan. 28 ARRL Letter).  Also, ARRL Audio News will be temporarily suspended as the League updates operations…ARRL Audio News aired at 21:10 hrs local time, and ended at 21:28 hrs. local time…Tnx, Bob!

 

02/17/2010 10m Phone Net – Olympics!...OPs glued to their TVs watching the Olympic games…W6ZE/AF6C checked in WB6IXN, and W6ACM, Craig.  IXN finished his taxes today, and Bob said W6HC was listed in the OPs who operated in the Midway Island DXpedition, in Mar. QST.  AF6C said that his sister & family got back to Plimpton, Mass., safely, after enjoying sights & warm WX in sunny CA.  And all OPs reported high QRN on the Net tonite!  ACM will miss Friday Club meeting…Craig has a family gathering at this time…And, the Net is Craig’s 1st 10m contact…That deserves a Club QSL card!...Craig was using a ICOM-7000 into a G5RV.

 

02/17/2010 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/WB6IXN checked in AF6C, W6ACM, and KJ6BYO.  AF6C said that his sister & family enjoyed their trip from cold Massachussetts to warm So. CA., but now they are back safely…(Br-r-r-r!).  AF6C and ACM discussed future band condx fer 10 & 15m if sunspots increase.  BYO checked in frm Los Feliz near Griffith Observatory, using a Yaesu 897 and a GP-9 2m/440 vertical, wid vy gud sigs!

 

02/24/2010 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in W6EZY, WB6IXN, W6ACM, W6FKX, W6HHC, and N6HC.  EZY, in Irvine, got his Club badge, and this was Jeff’s first time on the 10m Net, and AF6C delved into plumbing as he repaired a leaking faucet, and, fixing an ISP problem on the side…Now Bob will give the lemon bush a ‘haircut’!  IXN is busy making sense out of strike, dip, and rake(slip) readings on focal mechanism diagrams.  ACM made contact wid his first Japanese station on 17m last Saturday, and FKX put up a 10m dipole fer Net tonite, wid FB sigs heard by all!...Doug cud  not hear ACM.  HHC & CJZ continue working wid DATV, bench testing all equipment and successfully transmitting thier first Digital-ATV picture cross-town between HHC’s QTH and OPD.  HC put out a call for help putting up a vertical at DHT’s QTH…AF6C and W6EZY volunteered help when HC & DHT are ready.

 

02/24/2010 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/IXN checked in N1AB, KB6CJZ, AE6ZW(NIKO), AF6CF, W6HHC, KR6J, W6EZY, and AF6C.  N1AB will put up a quadrupole/dipole antenna after daylight savings time arrives on Mar. 12.  CJZ & HHC tested a 2nd DATV transmitter last nite, and Ken enjoyed the Tunisia DXpedition talk at last Club meeting.  ZW, Niko, in HB,has been a ham since 1983, and he is employed as a Communications Specialist (aka Comm-Spec).   KR6J, also in communications, and Niko plan to meet in the near future.  KR6J and EZY both ride competitively in bicycle racing events…EZY is a member of a Masters group that meets Tues. & Thurs. evenings.  CF will no longer share his auto…Nicholas got new wheels!   CF copied ZW well, but cud not copy KR6J.  And KR6J surprised himself finishing in middle ground competing wid Olympic bike riders, Feb. 14, on a 7 mile, 20 lap course!
