4/04/2012 10M Phone Net – W6ZE/KE6YHX checked in N6HC, WB6IXN, W6JTT, AF6C, and W6HHC.  Arnie, HC, worked the VK9N Norfolk Island DXpedition on 6M!!!   IXN and Lee entertained their two nieces from N. & S. CA.   YHX enjoyed the 1st AF6C soldering class last Saturday at HHC’s QTH held on Ken’s patio, and, Corey completed work on the WX station…YHX was waiting to check into another Net.  JTT, QTH near the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station, was down in the QRN at IXN’s QTH.  AF6C said the soldering class,  held last Saturday at HHC’s QTH, went well.   Ken HHC said that the final equipment check for the Baker-to-Vegas Run will be held next Saturday.

 

4/04/2012 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/WB6IXN checked in KE6YHX, W6JTT, KR6J, W6EDS(Scott), KF6EVX, AF6C, W6GMU, and WB6NQW(Ron).  YHX is now ready to continue work on his seismometer.  JTT resurrects an old EICOM 718 and KR6J will graduate in May wid an associate degree in science & engineering technology.  EDS, Scott, checked in and may visit us at a furure Club meeting.  EVX said that Gene Thorpe, KB6CFO, still needs 18 to 26 OPs for the Donate for Life program, 28th of April, phone 1-714-680-4258 if interested.  AF6C worked alone repairing talking book machines at Braille Institute today…COULD YOU VOLUNTEER HELP?...Contact Bob, AF6C, here on the Net or at Club meeting!  Scott, W6EDS, said that Art Sheldon, W7ZE, will retire from work on Apr. 13…Art was a long time OCARC member & Officer of the Club!  GMU announced that the Club meeting is next week, one week early to avoid conflict with the Visalia DX meeting.  Volunteers for field Day setup, teardown, team positions, etc., contact Dee, N8UZE!   Ron, WB6NQW, ‘flew in and flew out’.

 

4/11/2012 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C moved the Net up 5KCs to 28.380 MHz to remove interference from a QSO already in Progress.  AF6C checked in KE6YHX, WB6IXN, W6HHC, N6HC, K6DNR, wid W6JTT still down on 28.375 MHz!.  YHX completed more grounding at the QTH and Heard Sanyo in Yokahama, JA, at 5/5.  IXN also heard Sanyo at 5/4, and Bob talked wid Corey Terrando, AE6GW, twice last week at Sam Ash Music Store.  HHC, catching up on his email, said the pretrial test for the B to V Run went well last Saturday wid a couple of minor problems solved!  AF6C has most of the back ‘RF’s scanned and we will decide later the fate of the old paper copies.  All OPs on the Net were copied by Sanyo, 2A1COR, in Tokyo, JA, which, I believe, was our 1st distant DX contact in the new solar cycle!  HC, wid solid copy on Sanyo, is looking forward to Club meeting Friday.  DNR found us on 28.380 MHz later in the Net!

 

4/11/2012 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/WB6IXN checked in K6DNR, W6JTT, KJ6LHA, KJ6UJA, KE6YHX, K6ICI(Reese), and AF6C.  DNR enjoyed the JA DX on 10m, and JTT has bee resurrecting old gear.  LHA said all gear and the computers are working at present, and, UJA will enjoy a Disneyland visit.  And IXN & YHX briefly discuss Corey’s recent visit to the Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana.   AF6C serviced Talking Book machines at Braille Institute today, and Bob said partner Bruce, DLA, is in Tunisia, and Bob said the soldering class will meet one hour before regular Club meeting…AF6C is also loading old copies of ‘RF’ up on the website.  Reese, K6ICI, in Huntington Beach, ‘flew in and flew out’…Reese, a Tech, has a vanity call.

 

4/18/2012 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in WB6IXN, KE6YHX, W6UX, W6HHC, K6DNR, and W6JTT.  IXN applauded the lower gas prices and YHX continues work on properly grounding his radio gear as he looks for polyphasers.  UX reported 15m open to New Zealand, and Jeff will travel to Visalia this weekend to learn ‘tricks of the trade’ at ‘DX University’ from 9 am to 5 pm Friday.  HHC got the auto back after repairs and Ken continues preparations for the Baker-to-Vegas Run over the weekend, and AF6C and HHC briefly discuss two radios to be used in the Baker-to-Vegas event.  DNR checks into Net after the RACES Net and Bob kicks back to listen to the rest of the Net.  JTT, busu wid general maintenance, is using the horizontal ant. Tonite, and AF6C reports that 1993 ‘RFs’ are now up on the website!

 

4/18/2012 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/WB6IXN checked in WB9YCJ, KR6J, W6JTT, KE6YHX, KJ6UJA, KJ6LHA, KJ6VKF(Dennis), KF6EVX.  YCJ checks into Net, from high up in the bleachers at Angel Stadium wid 5/9 sigs, wid 5/9 sigs at NC’s shack, wid a game report.  KR6J will be wid RACES this year fer Field Day, and Kenan will finish school in six weeks.   Kenan says the mobile installation in the auto is stalled for needed switches.   JTT’s discone ant. was 2 S units below his regular ant. at this QTH.  UJA & LHA ‘flew in and flew out’, and VKF, a new Club member, is located in Costa Mesa.  EVX renew a call for ‘Donation for Life’ volunteers.

 

4/25/2012 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in KE6YHX, WB6IXN, W6HHC, N8AE, and K6DNR.  AF6C said the OPD had a good Baker-to-Vegas Run, coming in 42nd!…3rd in their Division, and YHX is installing a new air conditioner in the shack.  HCC, inundated wid pictures from OPs of the Baker-to-Vegas Run, will spend time sorting out pix to be included in future Club web pages.  Ken said 276 teams competed in the B-to-V running race this year!  IXN gave the number of major & minor tectonic plates making up the earth.  AE, wid a ’lil bronchitis, got home in time for din-din and check into the Net…Dee has a cold, and Carl will travel up North tomorrow…An ignition problem in the auto kept Carl away from Visalia this year.  DNR checked into the 10m Net after the RACES Net and could hardly hear Net OP’s, but he was 5/9 at IXN’s QTH.

 

4/25/2012 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/WB6IXN checked in KE6YHX, KJ6LHA, KJ6UJA, W6JTT, K6DNR, AF6C, AF6CF, KJ6WZU(Jay), KJ6VKF.  The early morning 3.9 mag. Event near San Juan Capistrano awakened a sleeping KE6YHX.  UJA says now is a good time to visit Disneyland, and LHA is tuning antennas to match a kit, and JTT also works on antennas at the Idyllwild location.   DNR & OPs discussed house & field mice and rats that occasionally chew the insulation from our feedlines and antenna wires.   AF6C enjoyed the good casino food at Pahrump…And WZU & XYL were also at the Pahrump location.  OMZ continues to work on his station in the shack, and CF, wid a busy schedule, checked in to hear the Baker-to-Vegas news. VKF’s sigs were down at IXN’s QTH and we welcome Dennis, a new member, to the Club!
