05/02/18 10m Phone Net

W6ZE/KE6YHX checked in W0MEC, KJ6OML, N6TMT, W6JTT, K6PAD, and KM6IZO. Clem MEC in Westminster is running 40W into a vertical, but has a high noise level. He reads Net Control at 53 to 54, and Gene really well. Gene OML reads N.C. and Clem at s+, and has something he needs to go do, so flies in and flies out. Sam calls Net Control while Tim tries to take his turn. Clem relays for Sam, but he can’t hear Tim, either. Sam JTT switches antennas and stands by. Clem gets the idea on the second go-round, and waits for Tim. Tim TMT ends his QSO with nothing further. Phil PAD in Huntington Beach reads Net Control at s2-s3, but can copy fine. He copies Clem at s7, Gene at s5, and Sam at s6 to s7. Phil PAD has been helping his nephew with some painting. He has been working FT-8 with Russia, Japan, Australia, and Hawaii. Vijay IZO is on low power, but Net Control reads him loud and clear. He mentions Tim G. N6GP brought the router for Field Day to his QTH. Clem ends the net with a reminder to Net Control about the Board Meeting coming up. Corey YHX is receiving each at s3.4 to s5.3, s6.3, s3.3, s3.4, s2.5, and s5.6, respectively. QRT 19:48 PDT.

05/02/18 2m Phone Net

W6ZE/KE6YHX checked in W0MEC, W6JTT, KJ6OML, N6TMT, AF6C, K6PAD, K0TZ, KM6IZO, and W6MAO. Clem MEC has a low noise level, but 10M was a mess. He is running 2.6W into a homemade copper Slim-Jim. Sam JTT has N.C. at 3 bars and reads everyone but Vijay. He is running 15W into a damaged ground-plane. Corey YHX reads him full-copy. The recent rains watered Gene OML’s flowers. Tim TMT turned off his WIRES setting, and asks Bob to look at the W6ZE web site. The 2M net is sounding better than 10M. Bob AF6C had a busy day; he got a new refrigerator today, and is going through the prep procedures for it. Corey has a long spiel about appliances. Phil PAD has strong signals from everyone. He notes a new refrigerator will lower your electric bill considerably. Steve K0TZ in Westminster tried the 10M Net, but had a high noise level. This is his first time checking in. He got a new Yaesu FT-991A and is running 50W into a portable antenna with a telescopic whip. Vijay IZO has to work Friday, so he can’t do a ride-along to track the Meadows Elementary School High-Altitude Balloon with Corey. He will be on 80M after the net, so will Phil. Corey YHX is receiving each at s4, s5, F.Q., s7 to s8, F.Q., s7, s3 to s4, s4, and 3dB over s9 (on 80M), respectively. QRT 21:07 PDT.

Corey tests a net on 80m at 3.882MHz after 2M QRT. Mike MAO in Rialto booms in. Phil didn’t check in because he couldn’t hear us. Vijay is readable and strong at times, but fading in and out. QRT 21:18 PDT.

W6ZE/KE6YHX checked in KJ6OML and KM6IZO. Gene OML has been working around the house all day. Vijay IZO has high noise, and suggests 80m to Corey. Corey schedules this for 20:00 PDT on 3.883MHz. Corey YHX reads each at 58 and s4.2, respectively. QRT 19:34 PDT.

Corey starts 80M at 20:02 PDT, and hears Vijay fine, s5.8 to s6.8. QRT 20:04 PDT.

05/09/18 2m Phone Net

W6ZE/KE6YHX checked in N6TMT, W0MEC, K6PAD, KB6PAL, KJ6OML, and KM6IZO. Tim TMT is working FT-8 on 6m, but there is no activity. Tim is monitoring, but needs to turn his Moxon to try to receive Phil. Clem MEC is running 2.8W with a KX-3 into a Slim Jim. He reports having an s9 noise level on 10M. Phil PAD is CQing on 6m FT-8. He tried a vertical and an inverted-v with no luck. David PAL doesn’t come back. Gene OML is having a great night, and wishes the best. Vijay IZO is on battery power, but Corey receives him well. Corey YHX reads each at s7-s8, s3-s4, s8, 58, s8, and s5, respectively. QRT 20:45 PDT. Corey starts an 80m test net on 3.883 at 20:51 PDT. Corey checks in KM6IZO, and Corey reads him at s7.9, after Vijay increases power to 100W. QRT 20:51 PDT. A little later, Bob KB6KPK checks in at 52dB over s9.

W6ZE/KE6YHX checked in W0MEC, KM6IZO, K6PAD, and KJ6OML. Clem MEC in Westminster reads N.C. at s7 to s8. Local static is down, and he reads Phil with strong signals, Gene full-copy, and Phil at 10dB over s9. Vijay IZO reads Clem full copy, but Clem can barely read Vijay. An asteroid the size of 5 football fields flew by between the Earth and the Moon yesterday, Vijay reports. He has another batch of IPA brewing also. Phil PAD in Huntington Beach reads N.C. at s1 to s2, Clem at s9+, but cannot hear Vijay. Phil tried 80M NVIS last week, but could not hear anything. Gene OML has high noise tonight, and flies in and flies out. Corey plans another 80M Net on 3.883MHz tonight at 21:00. Corey YHX reads each at s5.2, s6.0, s2.4 and s6.4, respectively. QRT 19:45 PDT.

W6ZE/KE6YHX checked in W0MEC, KJ6OML, W6JTT, KM6IZO, and K6PAD. Clem MEC in Westminster hears Gene, Sam, and Vijay (faintly). Gene OML hears everyone nice and clearly. He tries reduced power to no great loss at 50W. Sam JTT repaired the ground-plane, and plans to buy a “ruggedized” antenna. Vijay IZO tries Echolink, but can only be heard on his HT. Phil PAD looks forward to Vijay’s IPA. Corey schedules another 80M net for 21:00 tonight. Corey YHX reads each at s5-s6, s8, s6, s5-s6, and s8, respectively. QRT 20:42 PDT.

The test 80M Net started at 21:00 PDT on 3.883MHz, and ended at 21:02 PDT tonight. KM6IZO came in at s8.3.

05/23/18 10m Phone Net

W6ZE/KE6YHX checked in W0MEC and KJ6OML. Clem MEC copies N.C. okay, and Gene really well. He will be going to Field Day setup, as is Corey, and will be there for teardown on the Sunday of Field Day. Gene OML flies in and flies out. Clem and Corey talk about the 80M Net for a while after QRT time. Corey YHX reads the check-ins at s5.4, and s6.3, respectively. QRT 19:38 PDT.

05/23/18 2m Phone Net

W6ZE/KE6YHX checked in W0MEC, KM6IZO, KJ6OML, N6TMT, and AI6ZV/M. Clem MEC is weak to Net Control, no copy, but on the second round runs 75W to an improvement. Vijay has been testing the computer network for Field Day. Vijay tells us that Jeff’s KK6TRC-L Echolink node is offline. There was another Falcon 9 rocket launch, but the weather was overcast, so it was not visible, Vijay reports. He also notes to Terrence that he missed an IPA and Belgian beer Vijay had at a meeting. Gene OML suggests a PC computer solution to Corey. He receives N.C. at an s9. Tim TMT has been looking at FT-8 Digital for Field Day. He is also trying APRS on his Android smart phone, and plans to hook up a Ham Radio, so the tracking goes through it. Tim also found the MobiLinkd.com TNC for his HT and Droid. Terrence AI6ZV/M receives N.C. at full-bars. He is doing traveling for work, and has a 6m Moxon project for this weekend. Corey YHX reads the check-ins at s3-s4, s5, F.Q., F.Q., and s3-s7, respectively. QRT 20:45 PDT

Vijay checks into the 80M net on 3.883MHz at 21:01 PDT. He comes in at an s8.5, but has interference on his end. We move to 3.885, and Vijay comes in at an s8.6. Vijay notices a great improvement. QRT 21:06 PDT.

05/30/18 10m Phone Net

W6ZE/KE6YHX checked in W0MEC, W6JTT, K6PAD, and KM6IZO. Clem MEC hears Net Control at s7, Sam JTT at 20dB over s9, and Phil PAD at 10dB over s9, but has no copy on Vijay. He is running his KX-3 and an amp at 40W. Clem is using his Imax 2000 vertical antenna. Sam JTT has good copy on all, the first round. Sam signs clear until the 2M Net in the second round. Phil PAD copies N.C. at s2-s3, Clem at 5dB over s9, and Sam at s5, but cannot hear Vijay. He had a good Memorial Day, and hopes we had the same. Vijay IZO had a Memorial Day barbecue. He can hear Clem full-copy, Sam no copy, and Phil barely readable. Vijay tunes his antenna, and is much clearer to Net Control. Clem confirms the Board Meeting this Saturday, and signs clear. Corey YHX reads the check-ins at s5.2, s2.5, s2.7, and s4.1-s5.9(tuned), respectively. QRT 19:44 PDT.

05/30/18 2m Phone Net

W6ZE/KE6YHX checked in KJ6OML, N6TMT, KK6TRC, KM6IZO/Echolink, K6PAD, W6JTT, W6MAO, W0MEC, and W6ETC/Echolink. Gene OML had a good day, overcast, but nice. Tim TMT was doing 6m FT-8 earlier, and made some radio adjustments. Jeff TRC says good evening, and has his Echolink node up. He had some internet issues this past week, but has them solved. Jeff explains that when he transmits on the Echolink’ed radio, you cannot hear it through Echolink, but if you turn on a radio on the same frequency, you will. Vijay IZO had a good Memorial Day weekend, and has a new wheat-ale brew with ginger, cardamom, and lemon. Vijay is on his HT the second round, and is just as readable as on Echolink. Phil PAD reads Mike MAO at s7 to s8, and the rest at 10 bars out of 10. He says to Tim he contacted him on 20m FT-8 about a week ago. Sam JTT reads Phil and Clem at 10 bars out of 10 as well. He is on his repaired ground-plane antenna, and tried ordering another from Sirio, but the U.S. representative went out of business. Mike MAO reports drizzly weather at 63°F, 62% R.H., winds SW at 20mph up in Rialto at 1800ft. Clem MEC reads N.C., Tim, Sam and Phil well, Mike a little choppy, and Tom and Vijay okay. Tom ETC went to the Dayton Hamvention, and met Nicholas there. He looks forward to going again. Tom tripped on the concrete, however, and is healing. “Ouch!” Corey says. Corey understands it is quite a trip (no pun intended), out to near the East Coast. Corey YHX reads the check-ins at F.Q., F.Q., s6, s6, s7-s8, s5-s6, s4-s5, s6-s7, and s5-s6, respectively.
